What’s In The Box? August 2-8

Sun Ripened
No matter how you pronounce it, the word ‘tomato’ practically sings of summer, as well it should as the vine-ripened beauties are now at their best as the first heirlooms begin to arrive. This week’s box pays homage to the ripe, juicy tomato with both mixed heirlooms and Sungold cherry tomatoes, plus a bevy of complementary ingredients like focaccia bread, feta cheese and fresh, locally-made bucatini pasta, plus summery produce like purple eggplant, cucumbers and yellow Romano beans. So, uncork a bottle of wine, flip through this week’s recipe cards and then get cookin’ with these bright and beautiful summer favorites.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Heirloom Tomatoes

Juicy, sweet and incredibly luscious, heirloom tomatoes are now at their peak as we reach the month of August. See our recipe suggestions for a bevy of ways to enjoy them this week—layered in a classic ratatouille, puréed into a velvety chilled soup or served fresh over bucatini pasta.

Fresh Bucatini Pasta

Hand-crafted in nearby Bellingham, this spaghetti-like semolina pasta has a hole running through the center—hence the name bucatini, which comes from the Italian buco, meaning “hole”, while bucato means “pierced”.

Focaccia Bread

This soft, chewy Italian-style loaf is baked just for us by our favorite local bakery. Kissed with fragrant fresh herbs, it is delicious dipped in olive oil and a splash of balsamic vinegar.

Pierre-Marie Chermette 2017 Griottes Beaujolais

A beautiful wine for the summer months, this pale pink French rosé features hints of strawberry, blackberry and tart cherry and lingers on the palate with finishing notes of star anise and pomegranate seed.

Feta Cheese

Creamy with just the right amount of tang, our housemade feta is crafted from a mix of Bella Luna goat’s milk as well as cow’s milk. Sprinkle this pungent, soft cheese over a summer salad of heirloom tomatoes and herbs for added extra flavor and bite.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. The “girls” are enjoying the long summer afternoons and accompanying warm evenings, chasing bugs and eating tasty green weeds we pull from the garden.

Apricot Jam

Our organic jam is crafted from gorgeous, bright orange Harglow apricots. This particular variety boasts an exceptional flavor and texture, making it ideal for cooking and preserving—enjoy!

Ripe Summer Fruit

Methley plums and Sweetheart cherries.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Little Gem lettuce, frisée and mixed salad greens.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes Sungold cherry tomatoes, purple eggplant, yellow Romano beans, Armenian cucumbers, Bell peppers, golden beets, yellow onions and Costata Romanesco zucchini.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Enjoy a bountiful selection of fragrant herbs this week: Mint, basil, garlic, parsley and rosemary.

Edible Flowers

Bright blossoms to add colorful appeal to your salads this week!
