What’s In The Box? August 30-September 5

Late Summer Bounty
From juicy heirloom tomatoes and cucumbers to fragrant donut peaches and Bella Luna Farms grapes, the late-season bounty continues this week with a fresh and flavorful meal also starring sweet-yet-sharp Cheddar cheese from Acme Farms. Add alongside a crisp Columbia Valley Pinot Grigio, farm-fresh eggs and garlic fougasse bread, plus other crisp produce including salad-ready Little Gem Romaine, red beets and carrots, and you’ve got all the makings of an al fresco feast.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Acme Farms Sharp Cheddar Cheese

This rindless, pasteurized cheese is crafted in town of Acme with rsbT-free milk from the jersey cows at Lynden-based Twin Brook Creamery and boasts a sweet, fruity flavor that is balanced by the moderately sharp bite. Wonderful for snacking or try it incorporated into a grilled cheese sandwich with sliced heirloom tomatoes and a splash of balsamic vinegar!

Garlic Fougasse Bread

Baked just for us at a small bakery in Snohomish, this rustic flatbread is ideal for sharing. Similar in style to traditional focaccia, the artisanal-style loaf is studded with fresh garlic to give it extra depth and flavor.

J. Albin ‘Lorelle’ Pinot Grigio

This fresh and crisp Pinot Grigio hails from the Horse Heaven Hills region of south central Washington. A beautifully pairing for this week’s sharp Cheddar cheese, it features notes of lemon curd, pear and honeysuckle on the palate.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. The “girls” are enjoying the lingering summer afternoons and crisp evenings, chasing bugs and eating tasty green weeds we pull from the garden.

Ripe Summer Fruit

Donut peaches from Tonnemaker Orchard and green and red grapes from the Bella Luna Grapehouse.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Frisée, plus Truchas baby red Romaine and Little Gem Romaine lettuce.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes heirloom tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, carrots, red beets, cucumbers and Costata Romanesco zucchini.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Enjoy a bountiful selection of fragrant herbs this week: Parsley, sage, rosemary, mint, cilantro and basil.

Edible Flowers

Bright, cheery flowers to add color and spice to your salads.
