What’s In The Box? January 17-23

Soup & Salad
Ward off the chill this week by tucking into a simple, satisfying meal inspired by the hearty flavors of winter, starting with our luscious Italian white bean soup and accented by a bevy of salad-ready ingredients such as baby golden beets, hearty kale, Delicata squash and Westward blue cheese. Nutty Gruyère cheese bread, apple butter and an espresso-kissed chocolate bar also add comforting appeal to this classic soup-and-salad themed box.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

White Bean Soup

Flavorful Italian pancetta and hearty white beans pair beautifully in this soul-soothing soup, crafted in our farmhouse kitchen with garlic, celery, carrots, onions, Bella Luna chicken stock and fresh herbs. Garnish with chopped herbs and a drizzle of olive oil and serve with a side salad of winter greens!

Gruyère Cheese Bread

Made in nearby Snohomish by our favorite bakery, this freshly-baked loaf balances sweet, nutty Gruyère cheese with a light, crisp crust. Absolutely delicious toasted or re-warmed in the oven—just sprinkle with a few drops of water and bake at 350° for about 15 minutes.

Bodegas Riojanas Canchales Joven Rioja

This medium-bodied red is made using Spain’s most famous grape, Tempranillo, and is crafted by the Bodega Riojanas in Rioja, Spain, which boasts over a century of winemaking to its name. Easy-drinking and fun, it features notes of Bing cherries and red currants, plus a touch of cedar, spice and leather.

Crème Fraîche & Westward Blue Cheese

Both of these lovely options—our farmstead-crafted silky crème fraîche and a gorgeous, marbled blue cheese—will lend immense flavor to your favorite salad.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens are on an early-to-bed, later-to-rise schedule with the shorter daylight hours. As they spend more time snug in their coop, the “girls” are enjoying an extra helping of grain to supplement their diet, continuing to give us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, blue and green.

Seattle Chocolates ‘Rainy Day’ Espresso Chocolate Bar

This luscious dark chocolate bar from local chocolatier Seattle Chocolates is infused with fresh-ground Northwest espresso to create the perfect afternoon pick-me-up.

Apple Butter

This gorgeous spread is lovingly crafted from the orchard apples grown here at Bella Luna.

Seasonal Fruit

Fresh lemons.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Lacinato and Red Russian kale greens.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection includes baby golden beets, Delicata squash, Satina potatoes, Scarlet turnips, baby Nantes carrots, cauliflower and black radishes.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Porcelain garlic, rosemary, thyme and parsley from the walled garden and greenhouse at Bella Luna Farms.
