What’s In The Box? July 19-25

Summery Salads
The time is ripe—for just about everything! From crisp green beans, snap peas and cucumbers to crunchy carrots and plump berries, this week’s box is a display of summer splendor. Filled with a bevy of salad-ready provisions including our silky crème fraîche and housemade summer berry vinaigrette, this refreshing lineup also includes Pain au Levain bread, luscious rhubarb lavender preserves from Orcas Island-based Girl Meets Dirt as well as fresh summer cherries and our clafoutis recipe so that you can enjoy each and every bite this box has to offer.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Summer Berry Vinaigrette

Wake up your palette with this light, refreshing vinaigrette. Fit for summer salads and beyond (see this week’s recipes for ideas!), it is crafted in our farmhouse kitchen from strawberries, raspberries, Champagne vinegar and a hint of honey.

Girl Meets Dirt Rhubarb Lavender Preserves

Made from the Valentine rhubarb grown by JBS Farm, this deep pink preserve from Orcas Island-based Girl Meets Dirt is lightly infused with garden-grown English culinary lavender buds to achieve the perfect balance of tart and sweet—gorgeous with soft, creamy cow’s milk cheeses, a buttered baguette or dolloped over panna cotta or ice cream.

Pain au Levain Bread

This slightly-nutty, slightly-sweet sourdough loaf epitomizes French country-style baking with a chewy crust and light, airy interior. Baked by our favorite bakery in Snohomish, this traditional Pain au Levain is made using the bakery’s own sourdough starter.

Caves de Cerca Fâmega Vinho Verde

This young Portuguese wine is made from a beautiful blend of 50% Arinto, 30% Loureiro and 20% Trajadura grapes grown in the magnificent valleys of Tâmega and Douro, which are protected by the Marão and Alvão mountains. Balanced and incredibly versatile in its pairings, the finished wine boasts delicate minerality and fresh fruit aromas.

Crème Fraîche

Crafted in our farmstead creamery from pasteurized organic sweet cream, our rich and silky crème fraîche adds a beautiful finishing touch to summer salad dressings.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. The “girls” are enjoying the long summer afternoons and accompanying warm evenings, chasing bugs and eating tasty green weeds we pull from the garden.

Ripe Summer Fruit

Sun-ripened dark red cherries from Tonnemaker Orchards.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Treviso radicchio and escarole.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes Sungold tomatoes, green beans, spring onions, English cucumbers, purple eggplant, Chioggia beets, red radishes, carrots, Costata Romanesco heirloom zucchini and sugar snap peas.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Enjoy a bountiful selection of fragrant herbs this week: Parsley, garlic and rosemary.

Fresh Flower Bouquet

A fresh, fragrant arrangement of summer herbs and blooms.
