What’s In The Box? July 26-August 1

Summer BBQ
Embrace the summer heat this week with a lineup of favorites fit for munching, mingling and lingering around the barbecue, from all-natural bratwurst sausages topped your way with one of two locally-made condiments—a finger-lickin’ spicy BBQ sauce or irresistible smoky kale sauerkraut—to our signature cobbler recipe to pair with beautifully-ripe summer peaches. Featuring a selection of produce that includes blueberries, golden beets and cucumbers, plus rustic Italian bread and summer berry preserves, this week’s lineup is bright and summer-fresh—enjoy!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Skagit River Ranch Bratwurst

The pampered pigs raised on this farm in Sedro-Woolley roam outdoors in certified organic pastureland to root, dig, and cavort, thriving on a diet of flaxseed, corn and wheat. This week, enjoy the all-natural pork in the ranch’s perfectly-spiced bratwurst—simply grill, then layer with grilled spring onions and a slathering of either spicy BBQ sauce or kale sauerkraut.

Leon’s Small Batch Spicy BBQ & Dippin’ Sauce

This locally-made BBQ sauce is crafted from a treasured family recipe, utilizing natural ingredients and spices to achieve its signature smoky flavor and spicy-sweet twang. Wonderful served as a condiment or atop pulled pork, smoked chicken, burgers or brats, the gluten-free sauce also makes a great marinade.

Olykraut Smoke & Kale Sauerkraut

A Northwest take on the classic Bavarian condiment, this smoky slaw is crafted by the geniuses at Olympia-based Olykraut with green cabbage, kale, jalapeño, scallions, dried chipotle peppers and chile flakes, plus a hint of Jacobsen sea salt.

Bodegas Breca Rosé

Crafted from Garnacha de Aragón grapes cultivated in the highest altitude vineyards of northeastern Spain, this elegant rosé is characterized by perfumed aromatics of white flowers and bright red berry fruit with a distinctive and refreshing acidity.

Italian Rustica Bread

Baked just for us at a small bakery in Snohomish, this airy, rustic loaf makes for great grilled crostini—just brush with olive oil, sprinkle with salt and pepper and rub with a fresh-cut clove of garlic before tossing on the grill.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. The “girls” are enjoying the long summer afternoons and accompanying warm evenings, chasing bugs and eating tasty green weeds we pull from the garden.

Summer Berry Jam

Our housemade freezer-style jam is crafted from ripe, juicy berries hand-picked each morning during peak season. To preserve the wonderful fresh flavor and color, we make this jam with berries, organic cane sugar, fresh-squeezed lemon juice and pectin.

Ripe Summer Fruit

Yellow freestone peaches and the first of the summer blueberries!

Seasonal Organic Greens

Beautiful Cegolaine lettuce.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes carrots, golden beets, Piracicaba broccoli, spring onions and cucumbers.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Enjoy a bountiful selection of fragrant herbs this week: Mint, basil, parsley, rosemary and garlic.

Fresh Flower Bouquet

A fresh, fragrant arrangement of summer herbs and blooms.
