What’s In The Box? June 15-21

Father’s Day Cookout
Fire up the barbecue and gather round to celebrate dear old dad this week with a summery menu highlighted by our smoky housemade BBQ beans, spicy pickled okra and corn muffins from Snohomish Bakery, plus locally-made, small-batch BBQ dippin’ sauce and house-blend dry rub to accent whatever you decide to throw on the grill. These American classics are also accented by a bevy of beautiful summer greens, ripe local strawberries and other fresh produce like baby red potatoes, Shiitake mushrooms, sugar snap peas and baby golden beets.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

House-Blend Dry Grill Rub

Made with a mixture of savory spices including garlic, thyme and smoked sea salt, our house-blend is excellent rubbed on chicken, beef, fish and even seasonal vegetables—think peppers, onions or carrots!

Leon’s Small Batch Mild BBQ & Dippin’ Sauce

This locally-made BBQ sauce is crafted from a treasured family recipe, utilizing natural ingredients and spices to achieve its signature smoky flavor and spicy-sweet twang. Wonderful served as a condiment or atop pulled pork, smoked chicken, steak or burgers, the gluten-free sauce also makes a great marinade.

Housemade BBQ Beans

Our take on the American classic, these slow-simmered beans are handcrafted in our farmhouse kitchen and spiced with ketchup, mustard and just a touch of brown sugar.

Housemade Spicy Pickled Okra

Our quick-pickled okra is spiced with peppercorns, mustard seed, vinegar and an assembly of fresh herbs.

Fresh Corn Muffins

Just add honey: These light and fluffy corn muffins are baked here in Snohomish by our favorite local bakery.

Villa Travignoli Chianti Rùfina 2012

This beautiful red wine is crafted purely from Sangiovese grapes, a dark-berried vine that is almost synonymous with the deep, dark wines of Tuscany. Delicious and dry with notes of red cherry, violet and cinnamon, this wine pairs nicely with a variety of foods including this week’s grill-friendly fare.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Busy scratching through the straw mulch in their spacious outdoor run looking for tasty bugs and worms on nice days, our heritage breed laying hens are also thoroughly enjoying a bounty of sprouting seeds and spring popweed, in turn supplying us with fresh eggs in beautiful shades of blues, green and brown.

Local Strawberries

Summer is calling: Another crop of luscious local strawberries has arrived. Tender and ripe, these local beauties are best enjoyed right away, so we recommend trying them in this week’s recipe for strawberry-rhubarb coffee cake.

Seasonal Organic Fruits & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes baby Shiitake mushrooms, sugar snap peas, Ruby Sensation baby red potatoes, onions, Hakurei turnips and baby golden beets, plus lemons, limes and rhubarb.

Seasonal Organic Fruits & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes sweet yellow onions, carrots, asparagus, sugar snap peas, golden beets, purple kohlrabi and baby Hakurei turnips, plus lemons and rhubarb.

Seasonal Organic Greens

A beautiful mix of mini red and Little Gem Romaine lettuces, plus frisée.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Fresh garlic, shallots, parsley, chives and cilantro. Also, a colorful mix of edible flowers!
