What’s In The Box? November 2-8

Fall Comforts
Stave off the chill this week with a lineup of warm-and-wonderful fall pairings—rich, flavorful vegetable minestrone soup with toasted Pomodoro bread, plus Italian red wine. Complemented by our housemade plum jam and seasonal produce including sweet corn, leeks and red-fleshed Amarosa potatoes, this cozy meal begs to be eaten fireside, tucked in your favorite chair, with a glass of wine in hand.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Minestrone Soup

This soul-soothing soup is crafted in our farmhouse kitchen from F&L chicken stock, garlic and herbs and stars the perfect combination of fresh vegetables and petite pasta noodles. Serve up a steaming bowlful alongside a hunk of pomodoro bread and a crisp salad for a simply satisfying meal this week.

Pomodoro Loaf

Flecked with flavorful sun-dried tomatoes, herbs, plus a hint of sea salt, this savory loaf is baked just for us by our favorite bakery in Snohomish.

La Fiera Montepulciano A’bruzzo 2016

Lovely with casual fare such as this week’s soup, this Italian red wine is medium-to-full bodied with notes of violet and crushed red fruit on the nose. Ruby-red in color, it also features soft tannins and a very pleasant finish.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. With the shorter days of fall, the girls are up with the sun to roam the outdoors. Bedtime is coming much earlier now, as we see them heading into their house to roost as the sun is going down.

Plum Jam

Our housemade jam is crafted from gorgeous orchard plums lovingly handpicked off the tree each morning during the summer harvest. To preserve the wonderful fresh flavor and color, we make this ‘uncooked jam’ with plums, organic cane sugar and pectin.

Ripe Fruit

Fall apples and kiwi berries.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes sweet corn, leeks, orange carrots, golden beets, cauliflower, Piricicaba sprouting broccoli, celery, red Carmen sweet peppers and red-fleshed Amarosa potatoes.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Iron-rich spinach and peppery arugula greens.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Italian parsley, shallots, thyme, rosemary and garlic.
