What’s In The Box? September 20-26

Summer into Fall
Though September has brought with it cooler temperature, falling leaves and other signs that fall is just around the corner, here at Bella Luna and the other nearby farms we are continuing to enjoy a bounty of late-summer crops—from bicolor corn and heirloom tomatoes to green beans and English cucumbers. Thus, break out the grill for one last cookout this week with a lineup starring our house-blend dry grill rub, organic bratwurst sausages and locally-made BBQ sauce—plus blueberry jam, Pomodoro bread and all the ingredients for an apple crisp to top off the meal.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Skagit River Ranch Bratwurst

The pampered pigs raised on this farm in Sedro-Woolley roam outdoors in certified organic pastureland to root, dig, and cavort, thriving on a diet of flaxseed, corn and wheat. This week, enjoy the all-natural pork in the ranch’s perfectly-spiced bratwurst.

Leon’s Small Batch Mild BBQ & Dippin’ Sauce

This locally-made BBQ sauce is crafted from a treasured family recipe, utilizing natural ingredients and spices to achieve its signature smoky flavor and sweet twang. Wonderful served as a condiment or atop pulled pork, smoked chicken, burgers or brats, the gluten-free sauce also makes a great marinade.

House-Blend Dry Grill Rub

Made with a mixture of savory spices including garlic, thyme and smoked sea salt, our house-blend is excellent rubbed on chicken, beef, fish and even seasonal vegetables—think peppers, onions or corn!

Pomodoro Loaf

Flecked with flavorful sun-dried tomatoes and herbs, plus a hint of sea salt, this savory loaf is baked just for us by our favorite bakery in Snohomish.

Caves de Cerca Fâmega Vinho Verde

This young Portuguese wine is made from a beautiful blend of 50% Arinto, 30% Loureiro and 20% Trajadura grapes grown in the magnificent valleys of Tâmega and Douro, which are protected by the Marão and Alvão mountains. Balanced and incredibly versatile in its pairings, the finished wine boasts delicate minerality and fresh fruit aroma.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. With shorter days that signal the coming of fall, the girls are up with the sun to roam the outdoors where they still enjoy the warm afternoons.

Blueberry Jam

Our housemade jam is crafted from juicy Northwest blueberries hand-picked each morning during peak season. To preserve the wonderful fresh flavor and color, we make this jam with blueberries, organic cane sugar, fresh-squeezed lemon juice and pectin.

Fruit Crisp Topping

Our signature fruit crisp topping is crafted from organic cane sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon and sweet butter. Wonderful paired with the apples from your box, it also tops coffee cake with aplomb!

Seasonal Fruit

Honeycrisp apples from Cloud Mountain Farm in Everson.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Little Gem mini green Romaine and Chioggia radicchio.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes bicolor sweet corn, sweet Bullhorn peppers, fingerling potatoes, sweet onions, green beans, English cucumbers, heirloom tomatoes, Pink Beauty radishes, golden beets and Piracicaba sprouting broccoli.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Parsley, thyme, rosemary and sage.
