What’s In The Box? June 20-26

Summer Solstice
The longest and lightest day of the year is upon us this week, which (hopefully!) means the days of sun-soaked afternoons, leisurely evenings and produce-filled meals on the patio are officially here. Fittingly, this week we’ve captured the tastes of early summer, from crunchy garden lettuces and crisp English cucumbers to our signature lemon olive-oil cake mix to top with luscious, locally-grown strawberries for dessert. Also included in this bright lineup: Sun-dried tomato Pomodoro bread, Skagit River Ranch breakfast sausages, our housemade pimento cheese and even a bright bouquet of sweet peas. Enjoy!

Fresh Strawberries

Tender and ripe, these local beauties are best enjoyed right away, so we’ve included our signature lemon olive oil cake mix to help you whip up a refreshingly-light version of classic strawberry shortcake—see recipes for details.

Lemon Olive Oil Cake Mix

This light and moist cake is a family favorite and boasts a wonderful texture thanks to the inclusion of polenta. Try it for dessert, topped with fresh strawberries and a generous dollop of crème fraîche or whipped cream.

Skagit River Ranch Breakfast Sausages

With a flavor profile that includes hints of sweet maple syrup and savory spices, this incredible breakfast sausage is made from all-natural pork raised on the Skagit River Ranch in Sedro-Woolley.

Pomodoro Loaf

Flecked with flavorful sun-dried tomatoes and herbs, plus a hint of sea salt, this savory loaf is baked just for us by our favorite bakery in Snohomish.

Le Charmel Côtes de Provence Rosé

This estate wine is produced near Bandol, France along the Mediterranean coast. The grapes are cultivated on picturesque Provençal hillsides, then manually picked, hand-sorted and fully de-stemmed on site. The nose boasts beautiful aromas of raspberries and wild flowers and the palate is wonderfully bright and fresh with notes of strawberry and pear.

Pimento Cheese Spread

The Southern classic! Made with sharp Cheddar cheese, pimentos and fresh herbs, this housemade spread is delicious slathered on bread or crackers.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Busy scratching through the straw mulch in their spacious outdoor run looking for tasty bugs and worms, our heritage breed laying hens supply us with fresh eggs in beautiful shades of blue, green and brown.

Girl Meets Dirt Tomato Jam Preserves

Made from beautiful ruby Amish paste tomatoes grown at Maple Rock Farm, this scrumptious preserve from Orcas Island-based Girl Meets Dirt is accented by organic cane sugar, curls of organic lemon zest and a pinch of San Juan sea salt.
