What’s In The Box? March 14-20

St. Patrick’s Day Feast
Just in time for St. Paddy’s Day, this week’s box bursts to life with beautiful spring ‘greenery’—from fresh green cabbage to garden-grown parsley and bay leaf. Complementing this bounty are all the ingredients for a feast inspired by the Emerald Isle: Pre-brined corned beef and raisin-flecked Irish soda bread, plus chicken stock, tangy Bellsong buttermilk, stone-ground mustard, chocolate stout cake and other produce such as carrots, potatoes, turnips, apples and more. As they say in Ireland, sláinte (to your good health)!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Corned Beef Brisket

This all-natural, grain-fed corned beef brisket has been pre-seasoned and brined so that it arrives oven-ready for your feast!

Irish Soda Bread

Baked in nearby Snohomish by our favorite bakery, this beloved quick bread is crafted in the traditional style with buttermilk, flour, sugar, raisins, and egg.

Stone-Ground Mustard

Crafted in-house from mustard seeds, water, vinegar, salt and spices, this immensely-flavorful wholegrain mustard is wonderful served with this week’s corned beef and bevy of vegetables.

Boundary Bay Irish Red Ale

This easy-drinking seasonal ale from Boundary Brewery out of Bellingham highlights the arrival of spring with earthy, floral and toffee-like characteristics. A light-body, low hop bitterness and clean malty finish also help this ale go down smooth.

Farm Fresh Eggs

As they spend more time snug in their coop, our heritage breed laying hens are enjoying an extra helping of grain to supplement their diet, and continue to give us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream.

Fresh Buttermilk

Beautifully-thick, tangy and creamy buttermilk made by our in-house creamery, Bellsong.

Farm & Larder Chicken Stock

Made from roasted Bella Luna chickens, this flavorful stock has been simmered slowly with fresh herbs, aromatic vegetables, and seasoned with a dash of sea salt and black pepper.

Almond Fruit Crisp Topping

Wonderful paired with this week’s apples, our signature fruit crisp topping is crafted from organic cane sugar, ground almonds, dried cranberries, almond flour and sweet butter.

Flavors of Bavaria
In keeping with the warm, soulful flavors of classic German fare, this week’s lineup takes a trip to Bavaria with such favorites as smoky bratwurst links, fresh pumpernickel bread and tangy sauerkraut. Complemented by an array of seasonal all-stars like purple top turnips, Meyer lemons, crisp apples, baby red beets and fingerling potatoes to incorporate into comforting side dishes, this box also includes farm-fresh eggs, freshly-baked Linzer cookies, a rye stout vinegar, and a medley of earthy mushrooms—prost!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Skagit River Ranch Bratwurst

The pampered pigs raised on this farm in Sedro-Woolley roam outdoors in certified organic pastureland to root, dig, and cavort, thriving on a diet of flaxseed, corn and wheat. This week, enjoy the all-natural pork in the ranch’s perfectly-spiced bratwurst.

Britt’s Riesling Sauerkraut

Crafted from green cabbage, sweet onion, sea salt and yes, Riesling wine, this zippy sauerkraut from Langley, Washington’s Britt’s Fermented Foods is wonderful served with this week’s Bavarian fare. (Fun fact: The first sauerkraut was actually from China and used rice wine! Sauerkraut was introduced to Europe by the Huns when they came on horseback and became a staple in German cuisine when they combined salt and water with their cabbage.)

Pumpernickel Bread

Baked fresh just for us by a small bakery in nearby Snohomish, this slightly-sweet rye bread loaf is wonderful served alongside this week’s German-inspired fare.

Milbrandt Vineyards 2022 Rosé

The Syrah dominant Rosé from this Washington winery is dry, full-bodied and lush, with gorgeous red berry fruits like raspberry and strawberry. It shows extraordinary bright fruit and floral notes on the nose. A crisp profile, hints of grapefruit pith, and layered minerality make this vintage everything you could want in a dry Rosé.

This week’s box is packed with the vibrant flavors of Italy, found in the forms of locally-made bucatini pasta, Italian sausage from Skagit River Ranch, and soft, pillowy focaccia—plus health-boosting, vitamin-rich produce like dried Porcini mushrooms and bright radicchio, plus carrots, Cipollini onions, garlic, fennel and a bevy of citrus fruit. Fresh Bellingham Pasta Co. Bucatini

Hand-crafted in nearby Bellingham, this spaghetti-like semolina pasta has a hole running through the center—hence the name bucatini, which comes from the Italian buco, meaning “hole”, while bucato means “pierced”.

Skagit River Ranch Italian Sausage

The pampered pigs raised on the Skagit River Ranch in Sedro-Woolley roam outdoors in certified-organic pasture land to root, dig, and cavort as only happy pigs can, thriving on a diet of flax seed, corn and wheat. Spiced with savory herbs, this delectable Italian-style sausage adds a savory note to the likes of pastas, pizzas and more.

Dried Porcini Mushrooms

Taco Time
Spice things up with this week’s taco-themed box, which comes complete with Skagit River Ranch’s signature chorizo sausage and organic, locally-crafted whole wheat tortillas. Top your tacos with some chopped yellow onion, fresh microgreens, a few cilantro springs and a squeeze of Makrut lime—plus a spoonful of locally-made chunky salsa—and you’ve got all the makings of a Southwestern-style feast. Tortillas Con Madre Flour Tortillas

Crafted from just five simple ingredients—organic artisan wheat flour, water, organic pumpkin oil, sea salt, and non-aluminum baking powder—these lovely tortillas are made with love according to a treasured recipe by a small, family-run producer based in Lynden, Washington.

Skagit’s Best Salsa Company Medium-Ish Salsa

Hailing from Anacortes, this locally-crafted chunky salsa is full of ripe tomatoes, fresh cilantro, crisp onions, zesty peppers, garlic, lime juice and flavorful spices. (The “ish” in the name refers to the heat of the jalapeños, which vary in spiciness depending on the time of year!)

Multigrain Bread & Corn Muffins

Both baked in nearby Snohomish by our favorite bakery, this week’s selection includes a healthy freshly-baked loaf made with locally-milled Shepherd’s Grain flour and seven different whole grains, plus a hint of honey and toasted sunflower seeds, as well as light and fluffy corn muffins! J. Mourat Collection Vin de France Rosé

Comprising vineyards spanning 120 hectares, Vignobles Mourat represents one of the largest viticultural plots dedicated to organic agriculture in the Loire Valley. Made from Pinot Noir, Gamay, and Cab Franc, this bright and thirst quenching Rosé is bursting with aromas of crushed cherry, watermelon and herb. Hayshaker Farms Guajillo Chili Powder

One of the most popular and common peppers found in Mexican cuisine, Guajillo chiles offer a mild-medium heat that is balanced by a subtly-sweet flavor. Grown on Hayshaker Farms in the Walla Walla Valley and then dried and ground, the peppers in this powder will impart tons of flavor (but not the burn!) to your chosen recipe.

Beef Stock

Our signature handcrafted beef stock is slow-simmered for hours, and seasoned with fresh herbs, cracked peppers and a smattering of sea salt.

Handcrafted Potato Chips

Freshly made in our farmhouse kitchen using local fingerling potatoes fermented for two weeks for a slightly tangy flavor, then fried in sunflower oil and lightly salted.
