What’s In The Box? April 13-19
Brunch Time
Put on a pot of locally-roasted coffee and perk up your taste buds with this week’s selection of spring-fresh brunch fare. Featuring organic breakfast sausages from Skagit River Ranch, freshly-baked cinnamon-raisin bread, that aforementioned coffee from Whidbey’s own Island Time Coffee, and, of course, farm-fresh eggs from our heritage breed hens, the delivery also includes smoky Scamorza cheese, Northwest grown hazelnuts, and Meyer lemons, plus such spring favorites as baby red beets, watermelon radish, leeks and rainbow Swiss chard. Rise and shine, it’s breakfast time!
Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:
Skagit River Ranch Breakfast Sausage
With a flavor profile that includes hints of sweet maple syrup and savory spices, these incredible breakfast sausages are made from the all-natural pork raised on the Skagit River Ranch in Sedro-Woolley. These pampered pigs roam outdoors in certified-organic pasture land to root and dig, thriving on a diet of flax seed, corn and wheat.
Cinnamon Raisin Bread
Baked just for us by our favorite local bakery, this fresh-baked cinnamon raisin loaf makes for a delicious base to French toast.
Mille Prosecco Millesimato Extra-Dry DOC
Fabulously lively and light at every glass, this extra-dry Italian Prosecco features a bouquet of apple and pear notes as well as hints of light citrus.
Island Time Coffee Ferry Line Blues Roast
Crafted specifically for the Northwest aesthetic, Island Time Coffee Company sources only the finest, farm-direct, sustainable coffee beans from Latin America and Indonesia. All of the Whidbey Island-based company’s coffee is small-batch roasted, ensuring the best possible freshness, and this particular medium-roasted blend boasts a broad range of tangy and aromatic flavors to ensure a full-bodied cup of coffee without any bitterness.
La Boîte B-Mary Mix
This colorful blend of smoked paprika, celery seeds and spices is great mixed with vodka in a Bloody Mary cocktail, or try tossing it with roasted vegetables for a flavorful kick!
Ferndale Farmstead Smoky Scamorza
Crafted by the cheesemakers at this family-owned and -operated farm in Ferndale, this Smoky Scamorza is a three-time award winning signature Italian cheese aged on ropes, a technique used by artisans for hundreds of years that gives it a characteristic pear-shaped body. A relative of a mozzarella, but with a bolder and more buttery flavor, this cheese is smoked in-house using a signature blend of Apple and Alder wood smoke.
Farm Fresh Eggs
As they spend more time outdoors in their run, our small flock of heritage breed laying hens are enjoying succulent popweed pulled from the gardens along with an extra helping of grain to supplement their diet, continuing to give us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream.
Hazelnuts
These Northwest-grown organic nuts from Nookachamps Farm are excellent roasted and tossed atop your next salad.
Seasonal Fruit
Meyer lemons and Starking apples.
Fresh Organic Greens
Enjoy a bevy of spring “greenery” this week, including red and green mustard greens, baby rainbow Swiss chard and spring salad mix.
Seasonal Organic Fruit & Vegetables
This week’s produce selection also includes baby red beets, watermelon radishes, German Butterball potatoes, Walla Walla onions, cauliflower, leeks and red cabbage raab.
Fresh Garden Herbs
Italian parsley from the walled garden at Bella Luna Farms.
