What’s In The Box? April 20-26

Spring Awakening
Despite the persistence of this year’s April showers, the gardens are beginning to truly sing of spring and this week heralds the arrival of several seasonal favorites—from ruby-red rhubarb and fava beans to perky sunflower shoots and beautiful golden beets. Enjoy these beloved beauties alongside freshly-baked Pain au Levain bread, our own silky crème fraîche and eggs from our heritage breed laying hens, plus crisp apples, flavorful chives, Meyer lemons, spring onions and more; enjoy!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Spring Rhubarb

This week, enjoy a true hallmark of spring—first of the season rhubarb in all its bright-red, sweet-tart glory!

Fresh Fava Beans

These verdant, seasonal beans do require a bit of prep work, but it’s worth the effort—enjoy their inherent sweet, nutty flavor with everything from pastas to proteins.

Pain au Levain Bread

This slightly-nutty, slightly-sweet sourdough bread epitomizes French country-style baking with a chewy crust and light, airy interior. Baked by our favorite bakery in Snohomish, this traditional Pain au Levain is crafted using the bakery’s own sourdough starter.

Jean-Luc Colombo Cape Bleue Rosé 2021

This invigorating rosé is a dusty-pink blend of Syrah and Mourvèdre grapes. The raspberry and watermelon flavors are zesty and cutting, edged by crushed mineral and salt as well as a lingering, thirst-quenching acidity.

Farm Fresh Eggs

As they spend more time outdoors in their run, our small flock of heritage breed laying hens are enjoying succulent popweed pulled from the gardens along with an extra helping of grain to supplement their diet, continuing to give us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream.

Housemade Crème Fraîche

Our rich and silky crème fraîche is crafted in our farmstead creamery from pasteurized organic sweet cream.

Seasonal Fruit

Starking apples and Meyer lemons.

Fresh Organic Greens

Enjoy a plethora of vibrant spring greens this week: Sorrel, peppery arugula, sunflower shoots, green and red endive, Cegolaine lettuce, and Bibb lettuce.

Seasonal Organic Fruit & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes Calcot spring onions, leeks, baby gold beets and Huckleberry gold potatoes.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Italian parsley, garlic, shallots, thyme and chives from the hoophouse and walled garden at Bella Luna Farms.
