What’s In The Box? August 10-16
Taco Time
Spice things up with this week’s taco-themed box, which comes complete with Skagit River Ranch’s signature chorizo sausage and hand-pressed, wholegrain tortillas. Top your tacos with garden-grown scallions, radishes and chopped papalo herbs, plus a spoonful of locally-made chunky salsa—or one of your own making with this week’s tomatillos—and you’ve got all the makings of a Southwestern-style feast. Also included: Sliced multigrain bread, farm-fresh eggs, crisp salad greens, a trio of smoky-spicy peppers and a medley of tomatoes, plus limes and beautiful white donut peaches. Enjoy!
Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:
Skagit River Ranch Chorizo Sausage
This pig has kick: Spiced with cumin, coriander and Ancho chili powder, these flavorful sausage links from our friends at the Skagit River Ranch in Sedro-Woolley are crafted from their famous all-natural pork and make for a spicy addition to any Tex-Mex fare you choose, from tacos to frittatas!
Patty Pan Cooperative Wholegrain Flour Tortillas
The locally-made, hand-pressed tortillas from this Shoreline-based worker-owned coop are crafted from just four stellar ingredients: Olive oil, salt, water and organic flour from Cairnspring Mills located in the Skagit Valley.
Skagit’s Best Salsa Company Medium-Ish Salsa
Hailing from Anacortes, this locally-crafted chunky salsa is full of ripe tomatoes, fresh cilantro, crisp onions, zesty peppers, garlic, lime juice and flavorful spices. (The “ish” in the name refers to the heat of the jalapeños, which vary in spiciness depending on the time of year!)
Sliced Multigrain Bread
Crafted in nearby Snohomish by our favorite bakery, this healthy freshly-baked loaf is made with locally-milled Shepherd’s Grain flour and seven different whole grains, plus a hint of honey and toasted sunflower seeds.
Château de Campuget Costières de Nîmes 2021
This lovely white Rhône wine features a well-balanced structure, beginning with a round and fruity taste of peach and apricot, and ending on a fresh and persistent note of citrus fruits.
Farm Fresh Eggs
As they spend lots of time outdoors in their run, our small flock of heritage breed laying hens are enjoying succulent popweed pulled from the gardens along with an extra helping of grain to supplement their diet to give us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream.
Squash Blossoms
Along with summer squash season come these dainty, edible orange flowers perfect for frying!
Summer Fruit
Limes and ripe white donut peaches.
Fresh Organic Greens
Summer salad mix and micro cantaloupe shoots.
Seasonal Organic Fruit & Vegetables
This week’s beautiful bounty of summer produce also includes mixed summer squash, scallions, Juliet and mixed cherry tomatoes, tomatillos and radishes, plus Fresno, Pipicha Oaxacan heirloom and Pasilla Bajio peppers.
Fresh Garden Herbs
Garlic, Mojito mint and papalo, an aromatic herb native to Mexico with a flavor reminiscent of cilantro and arugula, all fresh from the walled garden at Bella Luna.
