What’s In The Box? August 8-14
AUGUST 8-14
Summer Splendor
No matter how you pronounce it, the word ‘tomato’ practically sings of summer, as well it should as the seasonal beauties are now at their best here in August. This week’s box pays homage to the ripe, juicy summer favorite with a selection of heirloom and rainbow slicing tomatoes, plus Pain au Levain bread, farm-fresh eggs, garden-grown herbs and an easy-drinking red wine, all to help you enjoy their vine-ripened glory. A wealth of summer produce ranging from summer squash to Romano beans, plus fresh-picked blueberries, finishes off this bright and beautiful lineup.
Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:
Summer Tomatoes
It’s one of the true hallmarks of midsummer here in the Northwest: tomato season has arrived! This week’s box includes two juicy, sweet and incredibly luscious options, rainbow slicing tomatoes and heirloom tomatoes. (We’ve also got plenty of ideas for you on how to best enjoy these summer favorites this week; be sure to check your recipe cards!)
Ripe Blueberries
Fresh-picked, locally-grown berries.
Pain au Levain Bread
This slightly-nutty, slightly-sweet sourdough bread epitomizes French country-style baking with a chewy crust and light, airy interior. Baked by our favorite bakery in Snohomish, this traditional Pain au Levain is crafted using the bakery’s own sourdough starter.
Ercole Barbera del Monferrato
This easy-going, liter sized 100% Barbera red is meant for sharing, bursting with juicy fruit flavors like red cherries, plus hints of lavender, thyme and spice. (Fun fact: The wines by Ercole, which means “Hercules” in Italian, are made by a generations-old co-op of local growers in the Monferrato region of Italy.)
Farm Fresh Eggs
As they spend lots of time outdoors in the sunny weather, our heritage breed laying hens continue to give us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream.
Seasonal Organic Greens
Endive frisée, mini Cegolaine lettuce and beautifully-speckled di Lusia radicchio.
Seasonal Organic Fruit & Produce
This week’s vibrant produce selection also includes sweet corn, mixed summer squash, fennel, turnips, carrots and Romano beans, plus lemons.
Garden-Grown Herbs
Italian parsley, garlic and rosemary from the walled gardens here at Bella Luna.
