What’s In The Box? December 21-27
Home for the Holidays
‘Tis the season for family and friends to gather around and celebrate the most magical time of year—allow us to lend a helping hand with any soirée you might have planned with an array of accoutrements that range from farm-fresh eggs and a full lineup of delights from our in-house creamery to cranberry chutney, Spanish manzanilla olives, gingerbread cookies and fresh produce like mini Butternut squash, Treviso radicchio, Belgian endive and mixed orchard apples. Plus, you’ll find all the fixings for a company-worthy meal: Salish Sea-caught halibut to roast with garlic, white wine and vegetables, grattini pasta to serve alongside, and Gruyère cheese bread to toast and serve melty-warm. From our family to yours—happy holidays!
Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:
Lummi Island Wild Salish Sea Halibut
With a mild and sweet taste, pure white flesh, and a firm but tender texture, halibut is a true special occasion fish, and this halibut is about as fresh as you can get here in the Northwest, harvested exclusively by tribal fishers in the Salish Sea.
Egg Grattini
These small grains of egg pasta are incredibly versatile, adding a homey and hearty touch to pretty much any broth-based soup. We especially love it on a chilly winter’s day, served in our flavorful chicken stock and topped with a drizzle of top-quality olive oil.
Gruyère Cheese Bread
This beautiful bread loaf balances sweet, nutty Gruyère with a light, crisp crust and is absolutely wonderful re-warmed in the oven—just sprinkle with a few drops of water and bake at 350° for about 15 minutes.
The Vincent Board Track Racer Rosé 2022
Crafted from a combination of Grenache, Mourvedre and Syrah grapes, this crisp, dry wine from Mark Ryan Winery features a supple finish, with refreshing acidity and a lithe texture.
Bellsong Creamery Provisions
This week, enjoy another trio of treats from our in-house creamery: fromage blanc kissed with farm-fresh herbs; lemon-basil compound butter; and miniature crottins, a small, round, creamy cheese.
Farm Fresh Eggs
As they spend more time snug in their coop, our heritage breed laying hens are enjoying an extra helping of grain to supplement their diet, and continue to give us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream.
Cranberry Chutney
This farmhouse favorite infuses warming spices with sweet-tart cranberries; it is lovely served as a side with a holiday turkey, or spooned over our crottin cheese as an appetizer.
Spanish Manzanilla Olives
Buttery, briney imported olives accented with anchovy stuffing; a great addition to a holiday cheese board!
Piranske Soline Salt Flower
These tiny pyramid-shaped crystals come from the famous European Piran salt pans, harvested using a special webbed spatula to remove them gently from the surface of the salt fields, where they form in a thin layer. A wonderful seasoning, this world-class fleur de sel enhances the natural flavors of fresh produce.
Seasonal Organic Greens
Belgian endive, Lacinato kale, and colorful Treviso radicchio.
Seasonal Organic Fruit & Vegetables
This week’s produce selection also includes Mashed Potato winter squash, miniature Butternut squash and fingerling potatoes, plus Meyer lemons, Cara Cara oranges and a mixture of New York, Liberty, Candy Crisp and Sweet Louise apples.
Fresh Garden Herbs
Thyme, garlic and parsley from the walled garden and hoophouse at Bella Luna Farms.
Sweet Treats!
Freshly-baked gingerbread men from our favorite local bakery in Snohomish, as well as traditional soft, buttery Italian amaretti cookies kissed with chocolate.
