What’s In The Box? February 13-19
Lots of Love
In honor of Valentine’s Day, this week’s box embraces two of our greatest passions: fresh, seasonal produce and gathering around the table with the ones we adore most. Thus, this colorful lineup is chock full of winter highlights like rosy radicchio, crunchy salad greens, Cara Cara and blood oranges, as well as beautiful root vegetables such as baby red beets, celeriac, red sunchokes, and more. Also included: Pain au Levain bread and white chocolate-raspberry scones from our favorite local bakery, garden grown greens, both chocolate and savory cheese fondues for sharing, and a blush-hued Rosé to help you toast to good times spent with your loved ones.
Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:
Chocolate & Cheese Fondue Kit
Gather ‘round the fondue pot: This week, we’ve included the main ingredients to whip up your own Valentine’s Day fondue night! Inside, you’ll find indulgent Pezzo semisweet 65-percent cacao chocolate and rich, savory Tomma Alpina cheese crafted by Bellsong Creamery; see recipes for instructions.
Marcona Almonds
Sweet and buttery, these imported Spanish almonds are great for snacking or tossing into salads for a little added crunch.
Pain au Levain Bread & White Chocolate-Raspberry Scones
This slightly-nutty, slightly-sweet sourdough loaf embodies country-style French baking with a chewy crust and light, airy interior. Baked just for us at a small bakery in Snohomish, this traditional Pain au Levain is crafted using the bakery’s own sourdough starter. Also included: Tender, flaky scones dotted with white chocolate and raspberries.
Lu & Oly Flowerhead Rosé
Strawberries and raspberries combine with delicate peach and cherries flavors on the palate, progressing into apricot and zest in this wine; full taste and crisp acidity provide a winning pairing with a long finish.
Farm Fresh Eggs
Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs each day in beautiful shades of brown, cream and green. As they spend more time snug in their coop during the chilly winter months, the “girls” are also enjoying extra helpings of grain and fresh greens to supplement their diet.
Organic Greens
Red veined micro sorrel, crunchy salad mix and Belgian endive. Also included are two different varieties of radicchio that arrive in very Valentine’s-Day-ready hues: Rosalba, a specialty crop grown for the late fall and early winter that produces loosely filled heads of pillowy smooth pink leaves; and Chioggia, a leafy, red-colored Italian chicory that boasts a super crunchy texture.
Winter Citrus
Cara Cara and blood oranges.
Seasonal Organic Vegetables
This week’s produce selection also includes: Carrots, baby red beets, red sunchokes, parsnips, celeriac and Austrian Crescent potatoes.
Garden-Grown Herbs
Parsley and thyme from the walled garden.
