What’s In The Box? February 20-26
Weekend Brunch
Put on a pot of coffee, pull out a skillet, and wake up to this week’s menu of farmhouse favorites. It has everything you need to whip up a luxurious and leisurely weekend brunch, from those aforementioned coffee beans to smoked English-style bacon rashers, plus cinnamon-raisin bread and both farm-fresh hen and duck eggs. Complemented by our housemade apple butter, locally-grown hazelnuts and chocolate-covered cherries, the box also includes fresh produce like fava shoots, salad mix, colorful radicchio, fingerling potatoes and a bevy of winter citrus. Good morning!
Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:
Jack Mountain Smoked English-Style Bacon Rashers
Also known as back bacon, the rashers from this Skagit Valley-based meat company are hand cut from the loin with a portion of the belly still attached. Each belly cut is dry-cured the “old school” way, by hand, aged for a minimum of eight days, and are smoked all day over hazelnut shells. The resulting rashers crisp up very well, yet still have a big meaty chew.
Cinnamon Raisin Bread
Baked just for us by our favorite local bakery, this fresh-baked cinnamon raisin loaf makes for a delicious base to French toast.
Island Time Coffee Island Sunset French Roast
Crafted specifically for the Northwest aesthetic, Island Time Coffee Company sources only the finest, farm-direct, sustainable coffee beans from Latin America and Indonesia. All of the Whidbey Island company’s coffee is small-batch roasted, ensuring the best possible freshness, and this particular dark-roasted blend is smooth, dark and tangy, with an assertive smoky aroma.
Saviah Cellars ‘The Jack’ Chardonnay 2022
This delicious wine from the Columbia Valley opens with scents of pear, apples, and tropical fruit with hints of lemon and vanilla. The palate is fresh, clean and crisp with beautiful balance expressed through flavors of stone fruit and Gala apples.
Duck Eggs
With near-transparent egg whites and color-rich oversize yolks, these local duck eggs are a chef’s dream, lending flavorful appeal to a variety of dishes.
Farm Fresh Eggs
Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs each day in beautiful shades of brown, cream and green. As they spend more time snug in their coop during the chilly winter months, the “girls” are also enjoying extra helpings of grain and fresh greens to supplement their diet.
Nookachamps Farms Organic Hazelnuts
A heart-healthy snack that provides a natural source of Omega 6, these high-quality hazelnuts are grown by a family-run farm located in the Skagit Valley.
Housemade Apple Butter
A farmhouse favorite crafted from fresh-picked Bella Luna orchard apples, slow-cooked in a cider reduction and seasoned with organic cane sugar and warm spices.
Dick Taylor Chocolate Coated Cherries
Made using a traditional coating pan, the chocolatiers at Dick Taylor layer upon layer of their award winning 65% Belize Dark Chocolate over organic dried tart cherries grown in Michigan to craft this delicious treat. Chosen for their complex flavor, these tart cherries are both sweet and sour and lend balancing notes to the rich, earthy dark chocolate. Each small batch is finished with a light dusting of organic cocoa powder.
Organic Greens
Chioggia and Rosalba radicchio, Mesclun salad mix and fava shoots.
Seasonal Organic Fruit & Vegetables
This week’s produce selection also includes: Huckleberry Gold potatoes, plus Cara Cara oranges, Meyer lemons, and apples from the Bella Luna orchard. Inside, you’ll also find TDE triple cross mandarins, a new hybrid variety that combines the best of its components into an incredibly sweet, juicy, and flavorful mandarin. This cross between the Temple, Dancy, and Encore mandarins is seedless, easy to peel, and packed with flavor.
Garden-Grown Herbs
Thyme and sweet bay from the walled garden.
