What’s In The Box? February 9-15

Cozy Comforts
It’s time to come in from the damp and cozy up to this week’s lineup of farm-fresh produce and pantry provisions, which includes such highlights as Skagit River Ranch’s organic Italian sausage, egg grattini pasta, our housemade chicken stock, Pain au Levain bread, locally-milled flour and filomena cheese. Also accompanied by fingerling potatoes, baby leeks, braising greens, baby golden beets and beautiful garden-grown herbs, this box will do wonders to ward off any rainy day blues (as will a spoonful of carrot cake almond-walnut butter!).

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Egg Grattini

These small grains of egg pasta are incredibly versatile, adding a homey and hearty touch to pretty much any broth-based soup. We especially love it on a chilly winter’s day, served in our flavorful chicken stock and topped with a drizzle of top-quality olive oil.

Skagit River Ranch Italian Sausage

The pampered pigs raised on the Skagit River Ranch in Sedro-Woolley roam outdoors in certified-organic pasture land to root, dig, and cavort as only happy pigs can, thriving on a diet of flax seed, corn and wheat. Spiced with savory herbs, this delectable Italian-style sausage will add a flavorful, savory note to a hearty bowl of pasta this week.

Pain au Levain Bread

This slightly-nutty, slightly-sweet sourdough loaf embodies country-style French baking with a chewy crust and light, airy interior. Baked just for us at a small bakery in Snohomish, this traditional Pain au Levain is crafted using the bakery’s own sourdough starter.

Ca’ del Sarto Pinot Grigio 2020

Ca’ del Sarto wines are all handcrafted in small batches, carefully chosen from four of the best regions in Italy: Friuli, Toscana, Piemonte and Sicilia. This bright pale yellow hails from Friuli, and displays a unique perfume of wild flowers and acacia as well as a dry finish.

Fantello Farmstead Creamery Filomena Cheese

This Enumclaw-based creamery produces beautiful cultured butter and alpine-style cheese. This particular semi-hard, raw cow’s milk raclette-style cheese is incredibly complex with layers of nutty, earthy and grassy notes, plus hints of hazelnuts and browned butter.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens are on an early-to-bed, later-to-rise schedule with the short daylight hours. As they spend more time snug in their coop, the “girls” are enjoying an extra helping of grain to supplement their diet, continuing to give us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream.

Farm & Larder Chicken Stock

Made from roasted Bella Luna chickens, this flavorful stock is simmered slowly for hours with carrots, onions and celery and seasoned with a dash of sea salt.

Steel Wheel Farm Hard Red White Flour

Crafted from the very first organic wheat crop grown by Steel Wheel Farm in Fall City, this whole red wheat flour is milled to order so your flour has peak freshness and flavor, and contains 16.4% protein.

Big Spoon Roasters Carrot Cake Almond & Walnut Butter

Made with lightly toasted English walnuts, heirloom Mission almonds, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, maple syrup, and Jacobsen sea salt, this decadent nut butter from North Carolina’s Big Spoon Roasters is also vegan, has no refined sugar, and contains only heart-healthy fats.

Seasonal Fruit

Cara Cara oranges and orchard apples.

Fresh Organic Greens

Miner’s lettuce, mixed microgreen, sunflower shoots, and a mix of braising greens.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection includes Russian Banana fingerling potatoes, baby golden beets, baby leeks and Jerada bunched carrots.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Thyme, shallots, garlic, sweet bay and rosemary from the walled garden at Bella Luna Farms.
