What’s In The Box? January 23-29
Light & Bright
Bright-green leeks to earthy sunchokes, and colorful radicchio to punchy citrus, this week’s box shakes off the winter chill with a gorgeous array of light and bright flavors. Also including other colorful favorites like baby red beets, licorice-y fennel, iron-rich spinach and salad greens, plus red onions and creamy Hakurei turnips, the lineup is rounded out by smokey Jack Mountain pork chops, golden wildflower honey, a savory rosemary sea salt bread loaf, fragrant garden-grown herbs, and eggs from our heritage breed hens. Crack open your box, throw on an apron, and enjoy all this bright box has to offer!
Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:
Jack Mountain Pork Chops
Each week the skilled butchers at Jack Mountain start with premium, Washington-raised pork to hand cut and trim the meatery’s delicious loins, chops, tenderloins and ribs. These gorgeous thick chops boast a rich, smoky flavor, yet don’t contain any added or injected sodium solutions.
New Day Baking Rosemary Sea Salt Bread
Kissed with fragrant rosemary and flecks of sea salt, this lovely freshly-baked loaf makes for lovely crostini, toast, or even sandwich bread.
Raconteur Wine Company 2020 Chardonnay
This rich, structured, balanced Chardonnay features flavors of ripe melon, peach, and pear, and a touch of acidity. It is crisp and lively on the palate; a wonderful wine to pair with dinner.
Bellsong Creamery Ricottone
This pillowy soft cheese is crafted solely from the whey of our other cheeses. Creamy with a slight tang and a bit of sweetness, our ricottone is ladled into traditional Italian baskets. We recommend enjoying it fresh within a few days for the best flavor; it is lovely served with a drizzle of this week’s honey and slices of toasted crostini!
Farm Fresh Eggs
Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs each day in beautiful shades of brown, cream and green. As they spend more time snug in their coop during the chilly winter months, the “girls” are also enjoying extra helpings of grain and fresh greens to supplement their diet.
Bella Luna Wildflower Honey
Golden wildflower honey from the apiary here at Bella Luna Farms.
Winter Chicories
Enjoy a beautiful mix of radicchio this week composed of such varieties as: beautifully-speckled di Lusia, stunning pink-hued Rosalba, and Costarossa, a stunning Verona style that stands out with its bold, bright reddish purple ribs.
Organic Greens
This week’s selection of greens also includes salad mix and loose leaf spinach, both from our farmer Rand at One Leaf Farm.
Seasonal Organic Fruit & Vegetables
This week’s produce selection also includes: Hakurei turnips, Italian red onions, sweet fennel, baby red beets, red sunchokes, winter leeks, plus organic blood oranges, Cara Cara oranges, Meyer lemons and Bella Luna Farm apples.
Garden-Grown Herbs
Thyme, shallots, garlic, and sweet bay from the walled garden.
Snickerdoodle Cookies
Freshly-baked snickerdoodle cookies from Snohomish Bakery topped with the iconic combination of cinnamon and sugar.
