What’s In The Box? July 12-19
Summering in France
Cool, classic and colorful, Salade Niçoise is the hallmark of summer in France, layered with fresh produce like tender-crisp lettuce, green beans and fingerling potatoes, and accents like hard-boiled eggs and protein-rich tuna. Thus, your box this week honors Bastille Day with local ingredients to create your own version of the famous salad, plus summery herbs and produce, creamy chevre cheese from Lost Peacock farm, dry organic rosé wine, a fresh baguette and even apricots. Enjoy!
Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:
Lummi Island Wild Albacore Tuna
The protein-rich salad from Provence balances the best in summer produce with accents like olives and tuna. Fittingly, we’ve included this incredibly flavorful canned Albacore tuna from local company Lummi Island Wild to incorporate into your own version of the summer classic!
French Baguette
Baked just for us by our favorite small bakery in nearby Snohomish, this fresh baguette embodies classic French baking with a delightfully-crisp crust and an airy interior.
Domaine Bousquet Organic Rosé
This beautiful rosé has an elegant pale salmon color with a nose that shows aromas of red fruits, with hints of fresh cherries and orange peel. In the mouth, it is lively with fresh acidity and a fruity palate—a wonderful wine for summer!
Lost Peacock Creamery Chevre
Soft and spreadable, this lightly creamy chevre from the Grade-A Lost Peacock goat dairy in Olympia, Washington is a simply beautiful farmstead cheese. Crafted with just goat’s milk and sea salt, it features notes of summer pasture and bright lemon.
Farm Fresh Eggs
As they spend lots of time outdoors in their run, our small flock of heritage breed laying hens are enjoying succulent popweed pulled from the gardens along with an extra helping of grain to supplement their diet to give us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream.
Maison Roucadil Organic Pumpkin Seeds
Imported from France, these organically-grown pumpkin seeds are fantastic roasted and scattered atop summer salads.
Fresh Organic Greens
Enjoy a bevy of beautiful greens this week: Mini red Romaine lettuce, frisée, Little Gem lettuce and pea shoots.
Summer Stone Fruit
Freshly-picked summer apricots!
Seasonal Organic Vegetables
This week’s produce selection also includes fennel, Chioggia beets, red spring onions, Russian Banana fingerling potatoes, Parisian market carrots, Romano beans and red radishes.
Fresh Garden Herbs
Mint, oregano and sage from the hoophouse and walled garden at Bella Luna.
