What’s In The Box? June 1-7

Taco Night
Spice things up with this week’s taco-themed box, which comes complete with Skagit River Ranch’s signature chorizo sausage, Mayocoba yellow beans, hand-pressed, wholegrain tortillas and Samish Bay queso fresco cheese. Top your tacos with garden-grown scallions and cilantro, plus a spoonful of locally-made chunky salsa, and you’ve got the makings of a Southwestern-style feast. Also included: Sliced multigrain bread, dried Guajillo chiles, farm-fresh eggs, crisp salad greens and lemon, lime, and blood orange citrus fruits. Enjoy!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Skagit River Ranch Chorizo Sausage

This pig has kick: Spiced with cumin, coriander and Ancho chili powder, these flavorful sausage links from our friends at the Skagit River Ranch in Sedro-Woolley are crafted from their famous all-natural pork and make for a spicy addition to any Tex-Mex fare you choose, from tacos to frittatas!

Patty Pan Cooperative Wholegrain Flour Tortillas

The locally-made, hand-pressed tortillas from this Shoreline-based worker-owned coop are crafted from just four stellar ingredients: Olive oil, salt, water and organic flour from Cairnspring Mills located in the Skagit Valley.

Alvarez Farms Peruvian Mayocoba Beans

Cultivated by a 2nd generation family farm in Mabton, Washington, these dried beans also known as peruano, canary, maicoba or Mexican yellow beans are delicate and mild in flavor, and buttery in texture.

Hayshaker Farms Dried Guajillo Peppers

Whole dried Guajillo chiles grown on Hayshaker Farms in the Walla Walla Valley, and dried and processed at Sauk Farm.

Cinnamon Raisin Bread

Baked just for us by our favorite local bakery, this fresh-baked cinnamon raisin loaf makes for a delicious base to French toast.

Clos des Lumières L’éclat Côtes du Rhône Rouge 2022

This refreshing French Rosé is crafted from a medley of Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault and Mourvedre grapes that give the wine a very fine nose dominated by hints of strawberry, pink grapefruit and cherry.

Farm Fresh Eggs

As they spend much more time outdoors in their run, our small flock of heritage breed laying hens are enjoying succulent popweed pulled from the gardens along with an extra helping of grain to supplement their diet to give us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream.

Samish Bay Queso Fresco

This certified-organic, 200-acre dairy farm in Skagit County produces gorgeous artisan cheeses crafted from the milk of their herd of Milking Shorthorn cows. This particular soft cheese is crafted in the traditional Latin American style, and is not only great on tacos, but crumbled on salads, too!

Skagit’s Best Salsa Company Medium-Ish Salsa

Hailing from Anacortes, this locally-crafted chunky salsa is full of ripe tomatoes, fresh cilantro, crisp onions, zesty peppers, garlic, lime juice and flavorful spices. (The “ish” in the name refers to the heat of the jalapeños, which vary in spiciness depending on the time of year!)

Fresh Organic Greens

Green Bib lettuce and mixed mini lettuces.

Seasonal Organic Fruit & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes scallions, red cabbage, red onions, and orange carrots, plus lemons, limes and blood oranges.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Cilantro and garlic from the hoophouse and walled garden at Bella Luna.
