What’s In The Box? June 22-28

Spring into Summer
As we officially greet summer here this week, get set for a delivery that is chock-full of fun and fresh provisions, from locally foraged Morel mushrooms and garlic scapes to beautiful cherries, apricots and even salty, snappy sea beans. Accentuated by farm-fresh eggs from our heritage-breed laying hens, freshly-baked Challah bread, garden herbs, spreadable sheep’s milk cheese from Harmony Fields Farms, and even everything you need to craft a homemade pizza pie, this delivery is sure to kick-off the new season in style.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Pizza Kit

Everything you need to hand-craft a homemade pizza pie: Pizza dough, tomato sauce, pepperoni, and a beautiful blend of shredded Romano, Asiago and Parmesan cheeses. Mangia!

La Boîte Pizza Posto Spice Blend

Crafted from oregano, Parmesan cheese powder, tomatoes, garlic, salt and other spices, this pizza-inspired spice blend is great for your next home-tossed pie, but also works well in pastas, on vegetables and chicken, or stirred into sauces.

Sea Beans

Sea beans, also known as samphire, glasswort, pickleweed, or sea asparagus, depending on where you are in the world, belong to the genus salicornia. Their branch-like stalks resemble thick grass that, when eaten, provide a satisfying, salty bite. Being halophytes, sea beans don’t just absorb salt from the ocean but also valuable ocean minerals. As the best source of minerals on the planet, the ocean is responsible for much of sea beans’ nutrition profile—providing them with high levels of iron, potassium, magnesium, and more.

Locally Foraged Morel Mushrooms

These seasonal mushrooms are only available in the wild, developing a cult following of local ‘mushroom hunters’ who roam our forests looking for this treat of nature. Woodsy and earthy, yet delicate and rich, they are excellent in a variety of dishes (like pizza!), or simply sauté in butter or olive oil with a squeeze of lemon and enjoy on their own!

Challah Bread

Baked just for us by our favorite bakery in Snohomish, this fresh loaf boasts a sweet, rich flavor thanks to a traditional base of silky eggs and Shepherd’s Grain flour, plus a touch of sugar.

Bruno Cormerais Chambaudière

This white wine boasts an excellent combination of salty minerality, fruity freshness, and spicy exotic acidity.

Farm Fresh Eggs

As they spend much more time outdoors in their run, our small flock of heritage breed laying hens are enjoying succulent popweed pulled from the gardens along with an extra helping of grain to supplement their diet to give us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream.

Harmony Fields ‘Sally’s Best’ Sheep’s Milk Cheese

This soft, spreadable cheese from Bow-based Harmony Fields is made from 100-percent sheep’s milk. Similar to chevre, but with a creamier texture, the light flavor of this cheese makes it perfect for spreading on crackers or sandwiches, or it also crumbles nicely in a salad or omelette.

Fresh Organic Greens

Enjoy a bounty of spring greens this week, including Little Gem lettuce and mini red Romaine.

Seasonal Organic Fruit & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes Belgian red and green endive and carrots, plus cherries and apricots!

Fresh Garden Herbs

Italian parsley, thyme, chamomile flowers, and garlic scapes from the hoophouse and walled garden at Bella Luna.

Amaretti Cookies with Chocolate

Dotted with chocolate bits, these traditional soft, buttery Italian cookies are a wonderful little pick-me-up.
