What’s In The Box? June 6-12

Late Spring Splendor
As June gets fully underway here this week, get set for a delivery that is chock-full of fun and fresh late-spring provisions, from locally foraged Morel and Porcini mushrooms and Hakurei turnips to Valencia oranges and even salty, snappy sea beans. Accentuated by farm-fresh eggs from our heritage-breed laying hens, garden herbs, crisp salad greens, and freshly-made rigatoni pasta from Bellingham Pasta Company, this delivery is sure to kick-off the new month in delicious fashion.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Fresh Rigatoni Pasta

Derived from the Italian word rigato, which means “rigged” or “lined”, this traditional-style, tube-shaped semolina pasta is hand-crafted in nearby Bellingham.

Sea Beans

Sea beans, also known as samphire, glasswort, pickleweed, or sea asparagus, depending on where you are in the world, belong to the genus salicornia. Their branch-like stalks resemble thick grass that, when eaten, provide a satisfying, salty bite. Being halophytes, sea beans don’t just absorb salt from the ocean but also valuable ocean minerals. As the best source of minerals on the planet, the ocean is responsible for much of sea beans’ nutrition profile—providing them with high levels of iron, potassium, magnesium, and more.

Locally Foraged Morel & Porcini Mushrooms

Woodsy and earthy, yet delicate and rich, these two beloved Northwest fungi are both excellent in a variety of dishes (like pasta!), or simply sautéed in butter or olive oil with a squeeze of lemon and enjoyed on their own.

Jewish Rye Bread

This dense, nutty loaf is baked for us by our favorite small bakery in Snohomish and is made with traditional dark rye flour, a natural sour rye starter and caraway seeds.

J. Mourat Collection Vin de France 2022

Comprising vineyards spanning 120 hectares, Vignobles Mourat represents one of the largest viticultural plots dedicated to organic agriculture in the Loire Valley. This blend is composed of 50% Chenin Blanc and 50% Chardonnay from 20 year old vines; on the palate, the medium-bodied wine has a sharp, broad acidity that delivers incredible freshness.

Farm Fresh Eggs

As they spend more time outdoors in the sunnier weather, our heritage breed laying hens are enjoying an extra helping of grain to supplement their diet, and continue to give us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream.
