What’s In The Box? March 6-12

Hearty & Healthy
In keeping with the soulful flavors of classic German fare, this week’s lineup takes a trip to Bavaria with such favorites as smoky bratwurst links and locally-made Riesling sauerkraut. Complemented by an array of fresh spring produce like baby red beets, potatoes, Bibb lettuce, mixed radicchio, Delicata squash, and Lemon Drop apples, this box also includes farm-fresh eggs, fromage blanc, Gruyère cheese bread, tender herbs, and our housemade apple chutney—prost!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Skagit River Ranch Bratwurst

The pampered pigs raised on this farm in Sedro-Woolley roam outdoors in certified organic pastureland to root, dig, and cavort, thriving on a diet of flaxseed, corn and wheat. This week, enjoy the all-natural pork in the ranch’s perfectly-spiced bratwurst.

Gruyère Cheese Bread

Made in nearby Snohomish by our favorite bakery, this freshly-baked loaf balances sweet, nutty Gruyère with a light, crisp crust. Absolutely wonderful re-warmed in the oven—just sprinkle with a few drops of water and bake at 350° for about 15 minutes.

La Perrière La Petite Perriere Sauvignon Blanc 2023

This highly-rated French wine boasts a pale lemon color and a fresh nose that hints at notes of green melon, grapefruit and white peach.

Bellsong Creamery Fromage Blanc

Light in texture and tangy in taste, our fromage blanc is lovingly-made from local cow’s milk—put it to work in your favorite recipes, or mix it with fresh herbs or lemon zest and honey to add lusciously-creamy appeal to your next cheese board.

Farm Fresh Eggs

As they balance their time between foraging in their outdoor run during rain breaks and then snuggling up in their coop in the evenings, our small flock of heritage breed laying hens is made up of three breeds: Black Copper Maran, Ameraucana, and Delaware. They especially enjoy produce trimmings and fresh greens to supplement their diet of organic layer mash, and continue to give us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream that we collect throughout the day.

Britt’s Riesling Sauerkraut

Crafted from green cabbage, sweet onion, sea salt and yes, Riesling wine, this zippy sauerkraut from Langley, Washington’s Britt’s Fermented Foods is full of healthy probiotics and is wonderful served with this week’s German fare. (Fun fact: The first sauerkraut was actually from China and used rice wine! Sauerkraut was introduced to Europe by the Huns when they came on horseback and became a staple in German cuisine when they combined salt and water with their cabbage to ferment and thereby preserve it.)

Housemade Apple Chutney

Our signature chutney is made from our own orchard apples, onions, currants, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, and warm spices.

Organic Greens

Red-veined micro sorrel, green Bibb lettuce and mixed radicchio.

Seasonal Organic Fruit & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes: Yellow onions, baby red beets, Delicata squash, and Austrian Crescent fingerling potatoes, plus Lemon Drop apples.

Garden-Grown Herbs

Italian parsley and thyme from the walled garden.
