What’s In The Box? May 11-17

Spring Delights & Delicacies
From red radishes and asparagus to the season’s first fiddleheads, spring produce continues to abound, both in the garden and foraged from the wild. This week’s box takes full advantage of these new delights with such complementary provisions as farm-fresh eggs, Italian black Nerone rice, rosemary organic honey, and Piranske sea salt. Add to this a loaf of Pain au Levain, baking chocolate, flavorful salad greens, fragrant herbs and Meyer lemons, and let the flavors of spring delight everyone at the table (especially Mom on her special day!).

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Locally-Foraged Fiddleheads

A true spring delicacy! These tightly-coiled tips of the Lady fern are only available for a short time during the spring months and boast a grassy, slightly-nutty flavor when sautéed—they are also a lovely addition to pastas, risottos or stir fries.

Italian Riso Nerone Rice

With a nutty flavor and firm texture, this imported Italian rice keeps its deep, nearly-black hue when cooked, making it a stunning addition to an array of dishes—plus, it’s also organic and rich in antioxidants.

Rosemary Organic Honey

This 100% pure monovarietal Italian honey boasts a pale amber color, full-bodied sweetness, and a piney aroma attributed to the honeybees’ love of organic rosemary blossoms.

Pain au Levain Bread

This slightly-nutty, slightly-sweet sourdough bread epitomizes French country-style baking with a chewy crust and light, airy interior. Baked by our favorite bakery in Snohomish, this traditional Pain au Levain is crafted using the bakery’s own sourdough starter.

Domaine des Belluges Rose

With an intense pink color with cherry-like hues, Its aromatic palette is composed of small red fruits and passion fruit combined with more mineral touches. Delicious for a warm spring evening!

Farm Fresh Eggs

As they spend more time outdoors in their run, our small flock of heritage breed laying hens are enjoying succulent popweed pulled from the gardens along with an extra helping of grain to supplement their diet, continuing to give us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream.

Piranske Soline Salt Flower

These tiny pyramid-shaped crystals come from the famous European Piran salt pans, harvested using a special webbed spatula to remove them gently from the surface of the salt fields, where they form in a thin layer. A wonderful seasoning, this world-class fleur de sel enhances the natural flavors of fresh produce.

K’ul Chocolate Pezzo Baking & Snacking Chocolate

Made with 100-percent, organic single origin cacao from the Semuliki Forest estate in Uganda.

Seasonal Fruit

Meyer lemons.

Fresh Organic Greens

Peppery arugula greens and tender-crisp green Bibb lettuce.

Seasonal Organic Fruit & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes red radishes, baby leeks, asparagus and red spring onions.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Enjoy a bevy of fragrant herbs from the hoophouse and walled garden at Bella Luna this week—garlic, thyme, sage, Italian parsley and mint.
