What’s In The Box? May 23-29

Fresh & Foraged
This week’s box sings of both the garden and the forest as it offers up freshly-harvested asparagus, radishes, turnips, fingerling potatoes and more as well as locally-foraged Morel mushrooms, a true Northwest favorite. Enjoy these tastes of springtime alongside freshly-made egg semolina pappardelle pasta, Pain au Levain bread, citrus fruit, and eggs from our heritage breed hens, as well as fragrant garden-grown herbs like tarragon, parsley and chives, and crisp salad greens—it’s all oh-so bright and oh-so fresh.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Semolina Pappardelle Pasta

This lovely, fresh handmade pasta is made by our favorite local pasta maker in Bellingham. Perhaps enjoyed with sautéed Morel mushrooms this week, these broad semolina noodles should rightly earn their name, which is derived from the Italian verb ‘to gobble up’.

Locally Foraged Morel Mushrooms

These seasonal mushrooms are only available in the wild, developing a cult following of local ‘mushroom hunters’ who roam our forests looking for this treat of nature. Woodsy and earthy, yet delicate and rich, they are excellent in a variety of dishes (like pasta!), or simply sauté in butter or olive oil with a squeeze of lemon and enjoyed on their own.

Pain au Levain Bread

This slightly-nutty, slightly-sweet sourdough bread epitomizes French country-style baking with a chewy crust and light, airy interior. Baked by our favorite bakery in Snohomish, this traditional Pain au Levain is crafted using the bakery’s own sourdough starter.

Côté Mas Blanc du Midi

Crafted from Sauvignon and Vermentino grapes, this easy-drinking white from Paul Mas Domaines in the south of France boasts inviting aromas of citrus; the palate is also crisp with soft flavors of juicy melon, green apple, peaches, lemon and ample minerality.

Farm Fresh Eggs

As they spend more time outdoors in the sunnier weather, our heritage breed laying hens are enjoying an extra helping of grain to supplement their diet, and continue to give us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Beautiful mini Romaine, plus red and green Belgian endive.

Seasonal Organic Produce

This week’s produce selection also includes fingerling potatoes, turnips, asparagus, yellow onions and radishes, plus Cara Cara oranges and Meyer lemons.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Tarragon, parsley and chives from the walled garden at Bella Luna.

Anemones

Happy and bright anemone blooms plucked from the spring garden.
