What’s In The Box? May 4-10

Ode to the Egg
Eggs are one of the world’s finest gifts to the cook, delicious served scrambled, poached, boiled or fried. Thus, this week’s delivery is devoted to the glorious egg, and two different varieties at that, with farm-fresh chicken eggs from Bella Luna and rich, silky duck eggs. Also filled with an assortment of egg-friendly pairings—multigrain bread, Caciotta cheese, farm-fresh herbs and smoky, nitrate-free bacon—plus a bevy of fresh spring produce that includes asparagus, cauliflower and baby leeks, this box will help you craft the perfect egg no matter what size you choose.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Skagit River Ranch Bacon

A perfect complement to this week’s box, this smoky, locally-sourced bacon is also nitrate-free. The pampered pigs raised on the Skagit River Ranch in Sedro Woolley roam outdoors in certified-organic pastures to root, dig, and cavort as only happy pigs can, thriving on a diet of flax seed, corn and wheat.

Sliced Multigrain Bread

Crafted in nearby Snohomish by our favorite bakery, this healthy freshly-baked loaf is made with locally-milled Shepherd’s Grain flour and seven different whole grains, plus a hint of honey and toasted sunflower seeds.

Ercole Piemonte Doc Rosato 2021

This crisp and dry Rosé features strawberry and peach on the nose, which leads to a pleasant second phase. Dry, but slightly sweet, it also boasts a smooth finish. Fun fact: The wines by Ercole, which means “Hercules” in Italian, are made by a generations-old co-op of local growers in the Monferrato region of Italy.

Ferndale Farmstead Caciotta Cheese

Crafted by the cheesemakers at this family-owned and -operated farm in Ferndale, this traditional Italian table cheese boasts a mild yet irresistible flavor with a soft texture. Aged in small wheels for a short time to produce a natural yellow rind, this cheese is tasty and versatile, and makes for a great addition to a cheese board.

Duck Eggs

With near-transparent egg whites and color-rich oversize yolks, these local duck eggs are a chef’s dream, lending flavorful appeal to a variety of dishes.

Farm Fresh Eggs

As they spend more time outdoors in their run, our small flock of heritage breed laying hens are enjoying succulent popweed pulled from the gardens along with an extra helping of grain to supplement their diet, continuing to give us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream.

La Boîte Desert Rose Spice Blend

This distinctive blend of halva, sesame and rose petals is lovely sprinkled on cheese, yogurt, desserts and ice cream!

Fresh Organic Greens

Enjoy a plethora of vibrant spring greens this week: Green Bibb lettuce, Pomegranate Crunch lettuce and purple radish microgreens.

Seasonal Organic Fruit & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes asparagus, cauliflower, baby leeks, Masquerade potatoes and onions, plus Cara Cara oranges and Starkling apples.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Italian parsley, garlic and thyme from the hoophouse and walled garden at Bella Luna.

Dick Taylor Chocolate Coated Cherries

Made using a traditional coating pan, the chocolatiers at Dick Taylor layer upon layer of their award winning 65% Belize Dark Chocolate over organic dried tart cherries grown in Michigan to craft this delicious treat. Chosen for their complex flavor, these tart cherries are both sweet and sour and lend balancing notes to the rich, earthy dark chocolate. Each small batch is finished with a light dusting of organic cocoa powder.
