What’s In The Box? November 2-8
Fall Bounty
Bright orange carrots, creamy Hakurei turnips, Delicata squash, fragrant fennel, and stunning Arkansas black apples: This week’s box is packed with beautiful fall produce. Accented by other farmhouse favorites like Pain au Levain sourdough bread, a mix of radicchio and kicky Andouille sausage from Skagit River Ranch, plus farm-fresh eggs, smoky Scamorza cheese and fragrant herbs, this colorful lineup is both ultra-flavorful and oh-so-fresh; enjoy!
Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:
Skagit River Ranch Andouille Sausage
This pig has some kick: spiced with fresh-cracked pepper, hot paprika and cayenne pepper, this flavorful sausage from our friends at the Skagit River Ranch in Sedro-Woolley is crafted from their famous all-natural pork. These pampered pigs roam outdoors in certified-organic pasture land to root and dig, thriving on a diet of flax seed, corn and wheat.
Pain au Levain Bread
This slightly-nutty, slightly-sweet sourdough bread epitomizes French country-style baking with a chewy crust and light, airy interior. Baked by our favorite bakery in Snohomish, this traditional Pain au Levain is crafted using the bakery’s own sourdough starter.
Auspicious Chardonnay 2021
This Chardonnay shows great fruit character, finesse, and fullness of the palate with the flavors of ripe pineapple, golden apple, and Anjou pear balanced by citrus notes and a smooth, creamy finish. A crisp, light-bodied wine, it is meant to be enjoyed young on its own or with light-fare.
Ferndale Farmstead Smoky Scamorza
Crafted by the cheesemakers at this family-owned and -operated farm in Ferndale, this Smoky Scamorza is a three-time award winning signature Italian cheese aged on ropes, a technique used by artisans for hundreds of years that gives it a characteristic pear-shaped body. A relative of a mozzarella, but with a bolder and more buttery flavor, this cheese is smoked in-house using a signature blend of Apple and Alder wood smoke.
Farm Fresh Eggs
Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of cream, brown and green. With shorter days of fall, the girls are up with the sun to roam the outdoors where they still enjoy the warm afternoons. Bedtime is coming much earlier now, as we see them heading into their house to roost as the sun is going down.
Seasonal Fruit
Arkansas black apples and Meyer lemons.
Fresh Organic Greens
A beautiful mix of radicchio, including Treviso and Lusia varieties.
Seasonal Organic Fruit & Vegetables
This week’s produce selection also includes Delicata squash, orange bunched carrots, fennel, Jimmy Nardello peppers, heirloom tomatoes and Hakurei turnips.
Fresh Garden Herbs
Parsley, thyme and sage from the walled garden at Bella Luna.
