What’s In The Box? October 12-18

Packed with Produce
From peppers to tomatoes and fennel to eggplant, this week’s box is full of fresh fall provisions! Also including such favorites as green beans, purple sprouting broccoli and meaty Porcini mushrooms, this autumnal splendor is rounded out by Gruyère cheese bread, rustic Sardinian pasta, farm-fresh eggs, and all the ingredients for a simply-rustic Meyer lemon curd tart, plus fragrant herbs and garden greens, beautiful Angelino plums and bubbly Prosecco. Enjoy!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Fregola Sarda Pasta

This beautiful, tasty Sardinian pasta is made from hard durum wheat flour that is rolled, sun-dried, and toasted to a mix of shades of yellow, gold, and brown. Rustic and nutty, each grain boasts a raggy surface that is adept at catching flavor.

Porcini Mushrooms

Italian for ‘little pigs’, these meaty, locally-foraged Porcini mushrooms are rich in taste, imparting a pungent, woodsy flavor to any number of dishes, from risottos to soups.

Gruyère Cheese Bread

Made in nearby Snohomish by our favorite bakery, this freshly-baked loaf balances rich Gruyère cheese with a light, crisp crust.

Mille Prosecco Millesimato Extra-Dry DOC

Fabulously lively and light at every glass, this extra-dry Italian Prosecco features a bouquet of apple and pear notes as well as hints of light citrus.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. With shorter days of fall, the girls are up with the sun to roam the outdoors where they still enjoy the warm afternoons. Bedtime is coming much earlier now, as we see them heading into their house to roost as the sun is going down.

Bella Cucina Crostata Pastry Tarts

Made with sweet dairy butter and delicately baked to a golden brown, these premade crostata tarts are ready to be filled with your favorite dessert topping—and we highly recommend the pairing of this week’s Meyer lemon spread and Angelino plums!

Bella Cucina Meyer Lemon Spread

This zesty spread is a wonderful sweet, yet slightly tart addition to dessert, featuring the bright, citrusy notes of the famous Meyer lemon.

Ripe Plums

These dark red, almost black Angelino plums boast a pale-yellow flesh and small stone; the flesh is dense and crunchy, but sweet with well-balanced flavor due to a long growing time.

Fresh Organic Greens

Shiso, Mizuna greens, tender pea shoots and Little Gem lettuces.

Seasonal Organic Fruit & Vegetables

This week’s box includes a beautiful bounty of fresh fall produce: Italian eggplant, purple sprouting broccoli, green beans, beefsteak tomatoes, red bell peppers and sweet Italian peppers.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Elephant garlic, thymes and Italian parsley from the walled garden at Bella Luna.
