What’s In The Box? October 24-30

Weekend Brunch
Put on a pot of coffee, pull out a skillet, and wake up to this week’s menu of farmhouse favorites. It has everything you need to whip up a luxurious and leisurely weekend brunch, from that aforementioned locally-roasted coffee to smoked English-style bacon rashers, plus cinnamon-raisin bread and farm-fresh eggs. Complemented by fragrant herbs, a bevy of garden greens, and Bellsong fromage blanc, the box also includes fresh fall produce like Italian peppers, fennel, tomatoes and orchard-grown Liberty apples. Good morning!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Jack Mountain Smoked English-Style Bacon Rashers

Also known as back bacon, the rashers from this Skagit Valley-based meat company are hand cut from the loin with a portion of the belly still attached. Each belly cut is dry-cured the “old school” way, by hand, aged for a minimum of eight days, and are smoked all day over hazelnut shells. The resulting rashers crisp up very well, yet still have a big meaty chew.

Cinnamon Raisin Bread

Baked just for us by our favorite local bakery, this fresh-baked cinnamon raisin loaf makes for a delicious base to French toast.

Island Time Coffee Salish Orca Blend

Crafted specifically for the Northwest aesthetic, Island Time Coffee Company sources only the finest, farm-direct, sustainable coffee beans from Latin America and Indonesia. All of the Whidbey Island-based company’s coffee is small-batch roasted, ensuring the best possible freshness, and this particular medium roast composed of Vienna and Italian-roasted coffee beans brews up a flavorful and smoky cup of joe.

Kranemann Hasso Douro Doc 2019

Named after the winemakers’ family dog, Hasso, this Portuguese wine is produced from three traditional Douro region grape varieties. Easy-going, fruity, and fresh in character, it is dense with blackberry flavors and acidity, making it an excellent choice for all occasions.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. With shorter days of fall, the girls are up with the sun to roam the outdoors where they still enjoy the warm afternoons. Bedtime is coming much earlier now, as we see them heading into their house to roost as the sun is going down.

Bellsong Creamery Fromage Blanc

Light in texture and tangy in taste, our fromage blanc is lovingly-made from local cow’s milk—put it to work in your favorite recipes, or mix it with fresh herbs or lemon zest and honey to add lusciously-creamy appeal to your next cheese board.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Baby lettuce blend, Treviso radicchio and variegated Chioggia radicchio.

Fresh Orchard Fruit

Sweet-tart Liberty apples from the Bella Luna orchard.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s vibrant produce selection also includes: Sweet Italian peppers, French Breakfast radishes, sweet fennel, cherry tomatoes, and heirloom tomatoes.

Garden-Grown Herbs

Sage, parsley, thyme and garlic from the gardens at Bella Luna.
