What’s In The Box? October 31 – November 6

Paella Party
The fall harvest continues in abundance, with tender broccolini, earthy Hedgehog mushrooms, peppery radishes, juicy tomatoes, and more all found in your delivery this week. Put these gorgeous offerings to delicious use in a traditional Spanish-style paella crafted with traditional Valencian Matiz rice, our housemade chicken stock and locally made chorizo sausage. Also featuring a freshly-baked wild rice and onion loaf, farm-fresh eggs, beautiful garden greens, and punchy piparra peppers, this lineup is fit for a fun gathering—gather ‘round the paella pan, uncork a bottle of wine and enjoy!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Paella Pan

You can’t craft paella without the pan, so we’ve included one of our favorites for you this week.

Paella Rice

Plump and delicious short-grain Valencian rice from Spain to help craft this week’s flavorful paella.

Skagit River Ranch Chorizo Sausage

This pig has a kick: Spiced with cumin, coriander and Ancho chili powder, this flavorful sausage from our friends at the Skagit River Ranch in Sedro-Woolley is made with their famous all-natural pork and makes for a perfect addition to paella.

Wild Rice & Onion Bread

Crafted with a unique blend of wild rice and fragrant onions, this freshly baked loaf from New Day Bakery is both visually stunning, and incredibly flavorful.

Poggia Anima ‘Asmodeus’ Nero d’Avola

Rich, peppery and opulent, this Sicilian red wine boasts a beautiful dark garnet color as well as aromas of ripe plums and tobacco. On the palate, it boasts a medium-plus body, offering a delightful balance of candied berry sweetness and lively acidity. The finish is characterized by a subtle hint of licorice sweetness, accompanied by firm yet velvety tannins. Crack it open on Halloween night and enjoy!

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. With shorter days of fall, the girls are up with the sun to roam the outdoors where they still enjoy the warm afternoons. Bedtime is coming much earlier now, as we see them heading into their house to roost as the sun is going down.

Farm & Larder Chicken Stock

Made in our farm kitchen from roasted Bella Luna chickens, this flavorful stock has been simmered slowly with fresh herbs, aromatic vegetables, and then seasoned with a dash of sea salt and black pepper.

Pimentón de la Vera

Add a dash of this sweet Spanish smoked pepper to your paella this week!

Matiz Piparra Peppers

Perfectly crisp and mildly spicy, these pickled piparra peppers (also known as guindillas) add a tangy kick to any dish! Hand-picked in the Basque region of Spain, they’re carefully preserved in vinegar and salt for a fresh, zesty flavor. Enjoy them with wild octopus alongside this week’s paella or use as a garnish for savory cocktails!

Matiz Wild Pulpo Octopus

Exceptionally tender and flavorful, this delicious octopus is hand picked in Galicia, Spain, using Spanish olive oil with a touch of sea salt.

Seasonal Organic Greens

One Leaf Farm’s beautiful lettuce mix, plus Treviso radicchio, and fava shoots.

Hedgehog Mushrooms

Try adding these to your paella: Also known as the ‘sweet tooth’ mushroom, the locally-foraged fungi are similar in taste to the popular Chanterelle, but with an earthier, smokier flavor.

Seasonal Organic Fruit & Vegetables

This week’s vibrant produce selection also includes: Cherry tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes, onions, shallots, Piracicaba broccolini, baby white Icicle radishes and freshly-picked Bella Luna Braeburn apples.

Garden-Grown Herbs

Fresh Italian parsley, thyme, shallots and garlic from the garden at Bella Luna.

Apple Cider Loaf

And lastly, a treat to enjoy Halloween night: A lovely, apple-kissed loaf from our friends at Snohomish Bakery.
