What’s In The Box? September 19-25

Pasta Night
Rich with comforting flavors, yet bright with summery ingredients, this week’s Italian-themed box is equally fit for a grand feast, or an intimate meal for two. Have fun experimenting in the kitchen with the provisions for pasta night—locally-crafted bucatini, organic Italian sausage, and our homemade garlic bread—plus, gorgeous garden favorites like artichokes, carrots, tomatoes, and green beans. Inside you’ll also find: A fragrant herb bundle, Bellsong Creamery fromage blanc, organic salad greens, classic-style biscotti, and farm-fresh eggs. Mangia!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Fresh Bucatini Pasta

Hand-crafted in nearby Bellingham, this spaghetti-like semolina pasta has a hole running through the center—hence the name bucatini, which comes from the Italian buco, meaning “hole”, while bucato means “pierced”.

Skagit River Ranch Italian Sausage

The pampered pigs raised on the Skagit River Ranch in Sedro-Woolley roam outdoors in certified-organic pasture land to root, dig, and cavort as only happy pigs can, thriving on a diet of flax seed, corn and wheat. Spiced with savory herbs, this delectable Italian-style sausage adds a savory note to the likes of pastas, pizzas and more.

Farm & Larder Garlic Bread

The perfect side dish to a bowl of pasta? Fresh garlic bread, of course! This week, we’ve baked up a batch of homemade bread featuring our own garden-grown garlic just for you; simply pop it into the oven to reheat.

Biscotti

Also included in this week’s box for you to enjoy with your morning coffee: Freshly-baked biscotti.

Los Vascos Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

Hailing from the Colchagua Valley of Chile, this red wine boasts notes of raspberry jam, candied fruit and white chocolate, along with spices of black pepper, nutmeg, bay leaves and cloves. Deeply and pleasantly mature with dark cherry, blackberry and plum flavors, it is smooth, round and easy-drinking on the palate.

Farm Fresh Eggs

As they spend plenty of time outdoors in their run and give us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream, our small flock of heritage breed laying hens are enjoying succulent popweed pulled from the gardens, as well as vegetable scraps from the kitchen, to supplement their diet of locally produced organic layer mash.

Bellsong Creamery Fromage Blanc

Light in texture and tangy in taste, our fromage blanc is lovingly-made from local cow’s milk—put it to work in your favorite recipes, or mix it with fresh herbs or lemon zest and honey to add lusciously-creamy appeal to your next cheese board.

Seasonal Organic Greens

This week’s vibrant produce selection includes: Green beans, lemon cucumbers, artichokes, orange carrots, Walla Walla sweet onions, cherry tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes, Carmen sweet peppers, ground cherries, yellow Romano beans and Anellino beans.

Garden-Grown Herbs

Garlic and a fragrant mixed herb bundle from the gardens here at Bella Luna.
