What’s In The Box? September 21-27

Colorful Cornucopia
Bright orange carrots, striped and yellow zucchini, rainbow tomatoes and pretty purple eggplant—this week’s box greets the official start of fall with a riot of color that also includes such highlights as Delicata squash, mixed sweet peppers, microgreens, juicy nectarines and Italian prunes. Also starring farm-fresh eggs from our heritage breed hens, hearty and healthy garbanzo beans, citrus-fennel sea salt and fragrant heirloom garlic, as well as a bold Columbia Valley Cabernet, this lineup sings with the flavors of the new season. Enjoy!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Garbanzo Beans

Also commonly known as chickpeas, these hearty and healthy Mediterranean favorites will add incredible flavor and bite to your dishes this week: Hearty and healthy garbanzo beans—try them tossed into salads, or mixed into a flavorful hummus spread (see recipes for details!).

Pain Au Levain Bread

This slightly-nutty, slightly-sweet sourdough loaf embodies French country-style baking with a chewy crust and light, airy interior. Baked by our favorite bakery in Snohomish, this traditional Pain au Levain is crafted using the bakery’s own sourdough starter.

Abbey Page Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Aged in oak for 18 months, this bold and structured Columbia Valley Cab is bursting with deep flavors of black currant, black cherry and cocoa notes balanced by supple tannins and a spice accented finish.

Ferndale Farmstead Fior di Latte Cheese

Fior di Latte, or “blossom of milk” translated into English, is a fresh, whole milk mozzarella with a delicate flavor and texture. Crafted by the cheesemakers at this family-owned and -operated farm in Ferndale, this particular version is made the old fashioned way using Italian cultures instead of vinegar to give it the full mozzarella flavor that this well-known cheese deserves.

Farm Fresh Eggs

As they spend lots of time outdoors in their run, our small flock of heritage breed laying hens are enjoying succulent popweed pulled from the gardens along with an extra helping of grain to supplement their diet to give us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream.

Bella Cucina Artful Food Citrus & Fennel Aromatic Savory Salt

This fresh and light combination of oven-dried citrus peel and fragrant fennel seeds is laced with flat salt crystals imported from Europe—use on chicken, fish or vegetables!

Seasonal Fruit

Yellow nectarines and Italian prunes.

Fresh Organic Greens

Iron-rich spinach and cantaloupe microgreens.

Seasonal Organic Fruit & Vegetables

This week’s beautiful bounty of produce also includes Delicata squash, Parisian Market carrots, Rainbow slicer tomatoes, mixed sweet peppers, striped zucchini, yellow zucchini and Annina eggplant.
