Apple of Our Eye
From dried fruit and pie-spiced pecan-almond butter to crisp-pressed cider and Jonagolds from the orchard, this week’s lineup is filled with apple-themed delights, as well as other fresh provisions to keep you cozy during these chilly days, like Skagit River Ranch bacon, egg grattini pasta, and stollen fruit loaf. Also in your box: Farm-fresh eggs, a Columbia Valley Chardonnay and winter all-stars such as Chantenay carrots, Badger Flame beets and Delicata squash. Enjoy!
Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:
Skagit River Ranch Bacon
This smoky, locally-sourced bacon is also nitrate-free as the pampered pigs raised on the Skagit River Ranch in Sedro Woolley roam outdoors in certified-organic pastures to root, dig, and cavort as only happy pigs can, thriving on a diet of flax seed, corn and wheat.
Egg Grattini
These small grains of egg pasta are incredibly versatile, adding a homey and hearty touch to pretty much any broth-based soup. On a chilly winter’s day, we especially love it served in our flavorful chicken stock and topped with a drizzle of top-quality olive oil.
Farm & Larder Chicken Stock
Made from roasted Bella Luna chickens, this flavorful stock is simmered slowly for hours with carrots, onions and celery and seasoned with a dash of sea salt.
Fresh Cinnamon-Raisin Bread & Stollen Fruit Loaf
Freshly-baked cinnamon-kissed raisin bread and traditional German Stollen fruit loaf, both from our favorite local bakery in Snohomish.
Sauk Farm Honeycrisp Apple Cider
Crafted from cold-pressed Honeycrisp apples grown on Sauk Farm in Concrete, Washington, this refreshing cider is delicious served crisp and cold all on its own, or is mixed into your next cocktail.
Saviah Cellars ‘The Jack’ Chardonnay
This delicious wine from the Columbia Valley opens with scents of pear, apples, and tropical fruit with hints of lemon and vanilla. The palate is fresh, clean and crisp with beautiful balance expressed through flavors of stone fruit and Gala apples.
Farm Fresh Eggs
Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens are on an early-to-bed, later-to-rise schedule with the shorter daylight hours. As they spend more time snug in their coop, the “girls” are enjoying an extra helping of grain to supplement their diet, continuing to give us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream.
Housemade Apple Butter
A farmhouse favorite crafted from fresh-picked Bella Luna orchard apples, slow-cooked in a cider reduction and seasoned with brown sugar, lemon juice and cinnamon.
Sauk Farm Dried Honeycrisp Apples
Made from the organic apples also grown on Sauk Farm, these dried apple chips are a great healthy snack, made without added sugar, additives or preservatives.
Big Spoon Roasters Limited Batch Apple Pie Spice Almond & Pecan Butter
This sweetly spiced nut butter is coziness in a jar, made with a combination of fresh-roasted heirloom Mission almonds, organic pecans, chunks of apple, touches of organic maple syrup, Jacobsen sea salt and an apple pie spice blend that includes cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, ginger and green cardamom.
Seasonal Fruit
Jonagold apples, Meyer lemons and Cara Cara oranges.
Fresh Organic Greens
Sweet, tender pea shoots.
Seasonal Organic Vegetables
This week’s produce selection also includes Walla Walla sweet onions, Chantenay carrots, Badger Flame beets, celery and Delicata squash.
Fresh Garden Herbs
Italian parsley, thyme and garlic from the walled garden at Bella Luna Farms.
