How it Works
First of all, how does it work? A handcrafted wooden box will be hand-delivered to your doorstep, where it will remain throughout the duration of your subscription. This is where your weekly Farm & Larder goods will be placed each week.
This week’s box is full of cozy comforts with a little Valentine’s sweetness mixed in. Skagit River Ranch bratwurst brings rich, savory flavor—perfect alongside Britt’s Riesling sauerkraut, bright and tangy with a subtle wine-kissed zip. A freshly baked Gruyère cheese bread is ready to warm and share, joined by farm-fresh heritage eggs, a hearty mix of seasonal greens and winter produce, fresh garden herbs, and a refreshing Dragon’s Head cider. To finish on a sweet note, there’s a limited-edition Dick Taylor Strawberries & Cream chocolate bar—a little reminder that love (and chocolate) is always in season.
Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:
Skagit River Ranch Bratwurst
The pampered pigs raised on this farm in Sedro-Woolley roam outdoors in certified organic pastureland to root, dig, and cavort, thriving on a diet of flaxseed, corn and wheat. This week, enjoy the all-natural pork in the ranch’s perfectly-spiced bratwurst.
Britt’s Riesling Sauerkraut
Crafted from green cabbage, sweet onion, sea salt and yes, Riesling wine, this zippy sauerkraut from Langley, Washington’s Britt’s Fermented Foods is wonderful served with this week’s Bavarian fare. (Fun fact: The first sauerkraut was actually from China and used rice wine! Sauerkraut was introduced to Europe by the Huns when they came on horseback and became a staple in German cuisine when they combined salt and water with their cabbage.)
Gruyère Cheese Bread
Made in nearby Snohomish by our favorite bakery, this freshly-baked loaf balances sweet, nutty Gruyère with a light, crisp crust. Absolutely wonderful re-warmed in the oven—just sprinkle with a few drops of water and bake at 350° for about 15 minutes.
Dragon’s Head Pèt-Nat Cider
This wild fermented cider is both funky and fresh on the palette, crafted from apples grown on the property of this Vashon Island-based cidery.
Farm Fresh Eggs
Our small flock of heritage-breed Black Copper Marans, Ameraucanas, and Delawares provides us with fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. With the shorter days of winter, the hens rise with the sun to roam outdoors—and tuck into their coop early each evening to roost.
Seasonal Organic Greens
Your box contains a beautiful selection of greens: Radicchio, mixed microgreens, claytonia and kale.
Fresh Organic Fruit & Vegetables
This week’s produce selection includes Austrian Crescent potatoes, leeks, red and green cabbage, heirloom Navel oranges, and farm apples.
Garden-Grown Herbs
Italian flat-leaf parsley and rosemary from the walled garden and hoophouse here at Bella Luna.
Dick Taylor Chocolate Dipped Strawberries & Cream
This limited-edition Valentine’s Day bar has two delicious layers: 72% Belize single origin dark chocolate and then Peruvian white chocolate, which is made with whole milk and freeze-dried strawberries. The strawberry white chocolate is fruity, creamy and sweet with the perfect level of tartness to round it out.
