How it Works
First of all, how does it work? A handcrafted wooden box will be hand-delivered to your doorstep, where it will remain throughout the duration of your subscription. This is where your weekly Farm & Larder goods will be placed each week.
September’s Sweet Spot
September finds us in that delicious space between seasons, with the last warm days of summer meeting the first hints of fall. This week’s box celebrates both, pairing sweet local bi-color corn, fragrant Tuscan melon, and sun-ripened tomatoes with tender Swiss chard, colorful radicchio, fennel, and eggplant. Add a crusty Pain au Levain, farm-fresh eggs, garden herbs and a smooth, spice-kissed Côtes du Rhône, and you have everything you need to savor summer’s lingering abundance while welcoming the cozier flavors just around the corner.
Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:
Local Bi-Color Corn
‘Tis the season for corn! These locally grown ears are sweet and delicious simply grilled or roasted with a dab of butter. Or, cut the kernels from the cob and toss them into a warm seasonal salad, fold into fritters, or simmer into a cozy corn chowder as the first hints of fall settle in.
Tuscan Melon
Fragrant, juicy, and wonderfully sweet, Tuscan melon is a late-summer treat worth savoring while it lasts. Enjoy it chilled by the slice, pair with salty prosciutto or creamy cheese, toss into a simple fruit salad, or serve with a squeeze of lime and a sprinkle of fresh herbs for an easy finish to an early-fall meal.
Pain au Levain Bread
This slightly-nutty, slightly-sweet sourdough baguette epitomizes French country-style baking with a chewy crust and light, airy interior. Baked by our favorite bakery in Snohomish, this traditional Pain au Levain is crafted using the bakery’s own sourdough starter.
Lavau Côtes du Rhône Villages
From family-run Maison Lavau in France’s Rhône Valley, this classic blend of Grenache and Syrah is generous yet beautifully balanced, with dark cherry and plum fruit layered with hints of spice and earth. Smooth and food-friendly, it’s a lovely early-fall red to pair with roasted vegetables, grilled meats, or even a cozy corn dish as September evenings begin to cool.
Farm Fresh Eggs
Our small flock of heritage-breed Black Copper Maran, Ameraucana, and Delaware hens provides us with fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. These lovely September days still offer plenty of time outdoors, where the hens happily peck, scratch, and forage in the fresh air.
Seasonal Organic Greens
Mixed baby lettuces, Italian Bietole Swiss chard, and both Treviso and di Luisa radicchio.
Fresh Organic Fruits & Vegetables
This week’s beautiful bounty of produce also includes: Jimmy Nardello peppers, cherry tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes, fennel, and eggplant, plus plums.
Garden-Grown Herbs
Flat-leaf Italian parsley and fragrant fennel flowers from the walled garden and middle field here at Bella Luna.
