One Last Taste of Summer

October may be here, but the farm isn’t quite ready to let summer go. This week’s box holds onto the season with juicy heirloom tomatoes, sweet Jimmy Nardello peppers, fragrant fennel, and sunny Canary melon, alongside crisp frisée and colorful radicchio. Nutty Fregola Sarda offers a perfect canvas for all that late-season produce, while a rich loaf of challah, farm-fresh eggs, garden parsley, and a bright Petit Verdot rosé round out a collection made for savoring these last abundant days before autumn truly takes over.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Fregola Sarda Pasta
This beautiful, tasty Sardinian pasta is made from hard durum wheat flour that is rolled, sun-dried, and toasted to a mix of shades of yellow, gold, and brown. Rustic and nutty, each grain boasts a raggy surface that is adept at catching flavor.

Challah Bread
Baked just for us by our favorite bakery in Snohomish, this fresh loaf boasts a sweet, rich flavor thanks to a traditional base of silky eggs and Shepherd’s Grain flour, plus a touch of sugar.

Momento Cellars 2024 Petit Verdot Rosé
Bold yet refreshing, this distinctive rosé from Momento Cellars showcases Petit Verdot in a bright, summery style. Ripe strawberry and watermelon lead the way, with juicy red fruit and a lively grapefruit edge bringing freshness and structure to the finish.

Ferndale Farmstead Fior di Latte Cheese
Fior di Latte, or “blossom of milk” translated into English, is a fresh, whole milk mozzarella with a delicate flavor and texture.  Crafted by the cheesemakers at this family-owned and -operated farm in Ferndale, this particular version is made the old fashioned way using Italian cultures instead of vinegar to give it the full mozzarella flavor that this well-known cheese deserves.

Farm Fresh Eggs
Our small flock of heritage-breed Black Copper Maran, Ameraucana, and Delaware hens provides us with fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. As October brings cooler days and the first signs of autumn to the farm, the hens still spend plenty of time outdoors, happily pecking, scratching, and foraging in the fresh fall air.

Seasonal Organic Greens
This week’s gorgeous bounty of greens includes Swiss chard and di Luisa radicchio.

Canary Melon
With its sunny yellow skin and sweet, juicy flesh, Canary melon brings a last little taste of summer to the fall table.

Fresh Organic Fruits & Vegetables
This week’s selection of produce also includes Jimmy Nardello peppers, heirloom tomatoes, sweet onion, fennel, eggplant, and celery, and Liberty apples.

Garden-Grown Herbs
Flat-leaf Italian parsley, thyme and fennel flowers from the walled garden and middle field here at Bella Luna.
