What’s In The Box? July 14-20

Summering in France
Cool, classic and colorful, Salade Niçoise is the hallmark of summer in France, layered with fresh, crisp produce, creamy hard-boiled eggs and accents like briny black olives and protein-rich tuna. Thus, your box this week honors Bastille Day with local and imported ingredients to create your own Northwest version, plus a plethora of summery herbs and fruit, Pain au Levain bread and our housemade clafoutis batter for use in a lovely cherry-kissed dessert.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Salade Niçoise Kit
Black Niçoise Olives & Tuna Bonito

This week, we’ve included all the ingredients to craft your own version of Julia Child’s classic salad (see recipes for details!). Protein-rich and perfect for patio dining, this Provençal staple balances the best in summer produce with a classic pairing of plump, briny Niçoise olives and tuna bonito in flavorful olive oil.

Pain au Levain Bread

This slightly-nutty, slightly-sweet sourdough loaf epitomizes French country-style baking with a chewy crust and light, airy interior. Baked by our favorite bakery in Snohomish, this traditional Pain au Levain is crafted using the bakery’s own sourdough starter; serve it alongside this week’s centerpiece salad to complete the meal.

Claude Lafond Reuilly La Grande Piece Rosé

This lovely and light rosé hails from the esteemed Loire Valley in France and is crafted from perfectly-ripe Pinot Gris grapes. Dry with a petal-pink color, the fragrant wine shows notes of violet, apples and acacia to pair beautifully with crisp summer salads.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. The “girls” are enjoying the long summer afternoons and accompanying warm evenings, chasing bugs and eating tasty green weeds we pull from the garden.

Housemade Clafoutis Batter

Just add cherries! Crafted from organic sugar, milk, vanilla and Bella Luna Farms eggs, our housemade batter provides the base for a rustic, custardy French dessert.

Fresh Fruit

Plump local blueberries, plus Sweetheart sweet cherries from Tonnemaker Family Orchard.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes Glacier tomatoes, cucumbers, mixed summer squash, sugar snap peas, baby red beets, baby carrots and red potatoes.

Seasonal Organic Greens

A beautiful selection of escarole, frisée and Variegato di Luisa radicchio, plus red Salanova and Tom Thumb baby lettuces and Italian Bietole chard.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Fresh Italian parsley, rosemary, oregano, garlic, and French tarragon.
