How it Works

First of all, how does it work? A handcrafted wooden box will be hand-delivered to your doorstep, where it will remain throughout the duration of your subscription. This is where your weekly Farm & Larder goods will be placed each week.

The Italian Kitchen

Rich with comforting flavors yet bright with the first stirrings of spring, this week’s pasta night-inspired box is made for gathering around the table. Think: locally crafted Lagana Foods pasta tossed with Skagit River Ranch Italian sausage and Nonna Pat’s classic Sunday Gravy, simmered simply with tomatoes, basil, and garlic. Balance those hearty notes with the beautiful bitterness of mixed radicchio, the mellow sweetness of leeks and tender Romanesco, and the gentle punch of fresh green garlic. There’s fresh-baked Struan bread for toasting and sopping up every last spoonful of sauce, plus farm-fresh eggs, local mushrooms, and a touch of brightness from winter citrus. Set the table and enjoy a little Italian comfort—Bella Luna style.

Here is what you’ll find in your box this week:

Lagana Foods Bucatini
The fresh pasta from Lagana Foods is hand-crafted in Seattle using sustainably grown Shepherd’s Grain flour and water, and cut to shape using Old World-style bronze dies. This spaghetti-like extruded pasta has a hole running through the center—hence the name bucatini, which comes from the Italian buco, meaning “hole”, while bucato means “pierced”.

Skagit River Ranch Italian Sausage
The pampered pigs raised on the Skagit River Ranch in Sedro-Woolley roam outdoors in certified-organic pasture land to root, dig, and cavort as only happy pigs can, thriving on a diet of flax seed, corn and wheat. Spiced with savory herbs, this delectable Italian-style sausage will add a flavorful, savory note to a hearty bowl of pasta this week.

Nonna Pat’s Marinara Sauce
It’s Nonna Pat’s classic Sunday gravy! Crafted in our farm kitchen with organically-grown local tomatoes (and lots of love), the key to our beloved family recipe is its simplicity: juicy, ripe local tomatoes, a handful of hand-torn basil leaves, fresh garlic, a swirl of first-press Italian olive oil, then just a dash of sea salt and fresh ground pepper.

Fresh-Baked Struan Bread
This week’s loaf is a beautiful, hearty Struan — a traditional Scottish harvest bread known for bringing together a medley of grains in one comforting slice. Studded with oats and whole grains, this fresh-baked loaf is gently sweet, lightly chewy, and wonderfully satisfying.

Atalaya Laya Red Blend 2022
This week’s wine is a vibrant Spanish red blend crafted from Garnacha Tintorera and Monastrell—juicy, expressive, and wonderfully easy to enjoy. Bursting with ripe dark fruit and soft, rounded tannins, it’s smooth without being heavy and bold without overpowering the meal.

Farm Fresh Eggs
Our small flock of heritage-breed Black Copper Marans, Ameraucanas, and Delawares provides us with fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. With the shorter days of winter, the hens rise with the sun to roam outdoors—and tuck into their coop early each evening to roost.

Housemade Crème Fraîche
Our rich and silky crème fraîche is crafted in our farmstead creamery from pasteurized organic sweet cream.

Cascadia Mushrooms
A beautiful little box of Pacific Northwest-grown mushrooms from Cascadia Mushrooms.

Seasonal Organic Greens
Your box contains a selection of mixed radicchio in a bevy of beautiful hues, plus purple radish microgreens and braising greens.

Fresh Organic Fruit & Vegetables
This week’s produce selection includes red and yellow onions, leeks, winter squash,, broccoli rapini and Romanesco cauliflower, plus Cara Cara oranges.

Garden-Grown Herbs
Green garlic from the walled garden and hoophouse here at Bella Luna.
