What’s In The Box? September 29 – October 5

Summer in Fall

Though the calendar may say fall, the recent warm and sunny weather has the gardens still thinking it’s summer as they continue to produce favorites like cherry tomatoes, eggplant and cucumbers as well as fall apples, hearty greens and more. Break out the grill for one last cookout this week with a lineup starring our house-blend dry rub to season up grill-friendly fare, plus all the ingredients for eggplant caponata and a mixed vegetable frittata to serve alongside. Uncork a bottle of French red wine, slice up some Pomodoro bread and toast to the last of summer.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Housemade Frittata

Crafted in the farmhouse kitchen with eggs from our flock of heritage-breed hens, plus red and yellow potatoes, sweet peppers, mushrooms and spinach, this light and lovely frittata is perfect for an easy weeknight feast. Simply reheat in a 350° oven for about 20-25 minutes or until warmed through, then cut it into generous wedges and serve alongside a grilled entrée.

House-Blend Dry Rub for Grilling

Made with a mixture of savory spices including garlic, thyme and smoked sea salt, our house-blend is excellent rubbed on chicken, beef, fish and even seasonal vegetables—think peppers, onions or eggplant!

Pomodoro Loaf

Flecked with flavorful sun-dried tomatoes and herbs, plus a hint of sea salt, this savory loaf is baked just for us by our favorite bakery in Snohomish.

Château de Mirausse L’Azerolle Vieilles Vignes 2014

This beautiful red blend is crafted from a combination of Carignan, Grenache and Syrah grapes grown on the Château de Mirausse estate located near the town Badens in France. Featuring a fresh mouthfeel and spicy, slightly-peppery finish, it pairs well with this week’s grill-friendly ingredients.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. With shorter days of fall, the girls are up with the sun to roam the outdoors; bedtime is coming much earlier now, as we see them heading into their house to roost as the sun is going down.

Capers

Plump, salty capers to incorporate into this week’s eggplant caponata recipe.

Blueberry Jam

Made here at Bella Luna in our farmhouse kitchen from fresh-picked blueberries, organic cane sugar and pectin.

Fresh Orchard Fruit

Crisp fall apples from the trees at Bella Luna.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes mixed cherry tomatoes, baby red beets, celery, carrots, mini white cucumbers, Piracicaba sprouting broccoli, eggplant and yellow onions.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Samantha oak leaf lettuce and Chioggia radicchio.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Enjoy a fragrant mix of herbs this week: Parsley, shallots, garlic, rosemary, and thyme.
