What’s In The Box? June 23-29

Summer’s Here
It’s now officially summer, which (hopefully!) means sun-soaked days, leisurely evenings and produce-filled meals on the patio. Fittingly, this week we’ve captured the tastes of early summer, from crisp garden greens and mixed baby summer squash, to juicy apricots to incorporate into a cinnamon-kissed galette tart. Pair these with lavender-infused lemonade and hearty multigrain bread, then sit back and enjoy the flavors of the season.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Fresh Multigrain Bread

Made in downtown Snohomish by our favorite local bakery, this round loaf is made with locally-milled Shepherd’s Grain flour and 7 different whole grains, plus hints of honey and toasted sunflower seeds.

Castello di Farnetella Chianti Colli Senesei

Composed of 92% Sangiovese and 8% Merlot grapes, this appealing red wine from the Castello di Farnetella estate in Tuscany is round and mellow on the palate with notes of berries, red fruit and vanilla.

Housemade Crème Fraîche

Crafted in our farmstead creamery from pasteurized organic sweet cream, this rich and silky crème fraîche is delicious dolloped on this week’s apricot galette, or incorporated into a salad dressing for a creamy touch.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. The “girls” are enjoying the long afternoons and lingering evenings, chasing bugs and eating tasty green weeds we pull from the garden.

Mixed Berry Preserves

Our housemade jam is crafted from gorgeous, organic berries lovingly handpicked each morning during peak season. To preserve the wonderful fresh flavor and color, we make this jam with raspberries and strawberries, organic cane sugar, fresh-squeezed lemon juice and pectin. (That’s it!)

Galette Dough

Crafted from organic ingredients including all-purpose flour, sugar and organic butter, this housemade pastry dough adapted from a beloved Alice Waters recipe bakes up light and crisp, with a smooth buttery taste that pairs well with fresh apricots.

Fresh Fruit

Beautiful apricots, dark red sweet cherries and zesty lemons.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes Hakurei turnips, red spring onions, broccoli, fava beans, Russian Banana fingerling potatoes, red radishes and mixed baby summer squash.

Seasonal Organic Greens

A beautiful selection of Little Gem baby Romaine, Variegato di Luisa radicchio and Lacinato kale. Also included: Mineral-rich Tat Soi, a much-loved Asian green with sharp, spicy bite and soft, tender leaves. (Try it sautéed with garlic, or eaten raw in salads.)

Fresh Garden Herbs

Fresh rosemary, shallots, garlic, oregano, sage and mint.

Lavender Flowers

Fragrant lavender flowers to infuse flavor into a summery lemonade—see recipes for details.
