What’s In The Box? April 19-25

A Taste of Home
With seasonal produce like radishes, sugar snap peas and purple sprouting broccoli, plus our signature chicken stock and housemade apricot jam, this week’s lineup not only delivers the freshest flavors of spring, but also includes an exciting new taste of home: Small-batch, locally-grown and milled flour from right here in the Pacific Northwest. Have fun experimenting in the kitchen with this stone-ground, heirloom wheat flour, and also enjoy fresh pumpernickel bread, micro-green sunflower shoots and beautiful Shiitake mushrooms, all to help you enjoy the best the Northwest has to offer.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Cairnspring Mills Rouge de Bourdeaux Flour

This Burlington-based company is reinventing the flour mill concept by producing small-batch, responsibly-grown flours made solely from wheat grown in the Pacific Northwest. Thus harvested and milled locally, this rare, stone-ground heirloom wheat flour contains more wheat bran and germ than typical U.S. commodity all-purpose flour, giving it a rich, deep flavor and lively baking character—try it incorporated into your favorite recipes for breads, scones, even cinnamon rolls!

Shiitake Mushrooms

With their curled umbrella-shaped caps and tender thin stalks, Shiitake mushrooms release a garlic-pine aroma when cooked and boast a rich, earthy flavor.

Housemade Chicken Stock

Made from roasted Bella Luna chickens, our housemade stock is simmered with carrots, onions, parsley and celery and seasoned with just a dash of sea salt.

Ravoire et Fils 2017 Domaine des Bellugues Rosé Mediterranée

Made by a small family estate named for the fireflies that live around the vineyard (bellegues means “spark”), this French rosé bursts with fresh fruit flavors and a crisp, bright acidity.

Pumpernickel Bread

Baked fresh just for us by a small bakery in nearby Snohomish, this slightly-sweet rye bread loaf is wonderful served toasted with freshly-sliced radishes and a drizzle of olive oil and sea salt on top.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Spending their time dodging raindrops on wet spring days, our heritage breed laying hens are now also enjoying the tasty green popweed we pull from the garden, in turn supplying us with eggs in beautiful shades of brown, blue and green.

Apricot Jam

Our organic jam is crafted from gorgeous, bright-orange Harglow apricots. This particular variety boasts an exceptional flavor and texture, making it ideal for cooking and preserving—enjoy!

Seasonal Organic Greens

Micro-green sunflower shoots.

Seasonal Organic Produce

This week’s produce selection also includes cauliflower, sugar snap peas, purple sprouting broccoli, celery, Swiss chard, leeks, radishes, baby carrots and winter Savoy cabbage, plus lemons.

Fresh Garden Herbs

French thyme, mint, Italian parsley, cilantro and shallots. Also included: Salad burnet, a perennial herb known for its crisp, clean, cucumber-like flavor.
