What’s In The Box? August 11-17

Summer Favorites
Tomatoes! Corn! Peaches! These treasured late-summer favorites have arrived and this week’s box celebrates the trio in all their sun-ripened glory, as well as other new arrivals such as green beans, zucchini and chili peppers, plus yellow Canary melons. Kick off your meal with fried squash blossoms stuffed with our housemade ricotta cheese, then slice up some fresh multigrain bread, uncork a bottle of red wine and get to cookin’ with these summer all-stars.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Fresh Multigrain Bread

Made in downtown Snohomish by our favorite local bakery, this round loaf is made with locally-milled Shepherd’s Grain flour and 7 different whole grains, plus hints of honey and toasted sunflower seeds.

Fresh Ricotta

Rich and mildly sweet, this lovely fresh ricotta is crafted in our farmstead creamery from cow’s milk whey and heavy cream. Use this versatile cheese in this week’s fried squash blossoms recipe, or sweeten lightly with honey and enjoy with fresh Canary melon or peaches.

Squash Blossoms

Along with summer squash season come these dainty, edible orange flowers perfect for frying! See this week’s recipes for instructions on how to craft a classic summer starter with these bright blossoms.

Vignoble Bulliat Beaujolais Villages

This light, dry red wine is made from Gamay grapes grown in the most southern growing region of Burgundy in France. Refreshing with a bright acidity, it boasts juicy strawberry and raspberry notes.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. The “girls” are enjoying the warm late summer afternoons and accompanying long evenings, chasing bugs and eating tasty green weeds we pull from the garden.

Fran’s Chocolates Dark Chocolate Sauce

This smooth, spoonable sauce from Seattle-based Fran’s Chocolates is crafted from the company’s signature dark chocolate. Delightfully intense, the sauce is lovely served over vanilla ice cream, or alongside your favorite summer fruit tart.

Fresh Fruit

Yellow freestone peaches and juicy white-fleshed Canary melons, plus the second harvest of sweet table grapes from the Bella Luna Grape House.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes bicolor corn, baby gold beets, green beans, heirloom tomatoes, yellow zucchini, tender spring leeks, Anaheim chilis and English cucumbers.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Spicy salad mix, baby red Romaine and Variegata di Luisa radicchio.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Italian parsley, garlic, sage, mint, chives and sweet basil.
