What’s In The Box? August 23-29

Summer All-Stars
Peppers! Peaches! Tomatoes! These late summer staples are arriving in abundance here in August and this week’s box celebrates them in all their sun-ripened glory, as well as other favorites such as artichokes, squash blossoms and Santa Claus melon. Also joining these summer all-stars: Fresh, handcrafted red pepper linguine from Bellingham Pasta Co., plus Pain au Levain bread, Grana-style cheese and a smooth Washington Syrah. Long live summer!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Roasted Red Pepper Linguine

Hand-crafted from wholesome, quality ingredients by Bellingham Pasta Co., this fresh linguine is kissed with fire-roasted red peppers to give it incredible flavor—and a truly unique red color!

Squash Blossoms

Along with summer squash season come these dainty, edible orange flowers perfect for frying!

Pain au Levain Bread

This slightly-nutty, slightly-sweet sourdough loaf epitomizes French country-style baking with a chewy crust and light, airy interior. Baked by our favorite bakery in Snohomish, this traditional Pain au Levain is made using the bakery’s own sourdough starter.

Lone Birch 2014 Syrah

From a fourth generation family-owned and operated winery in the Yakima Valley, this beautiful wine is well-balanced, full-bodied and smooth, boasting notes of dark berries and toasted oak on the palette.

Grana-Style Cheese

Our hard Grana-style cheese is crafted from part-skim cow’s milk to allow for an extra-long aging of 36 months or more. Ideal for grating over pasta, the drum-shaped cheese is turned and rubbed with olive oil during aging to create a smooth, golden rind.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. The “girls” are enjoying the long summer afternoons and accompanying warm evenings, chasing bugs and eating tasty green weeds we pull from the garden.

Blueberry Jam

Made in the farmhouse kitchen from our fresh-picked blueberries, organic cane sugar and pectin.

Ripe Summer Fruit

Juicy Santa Claus melon from Tonnemaker Orchard, plus yellow peaches and green and red grapes from the Bella Luna Grapehouse.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Frisée and peppery arugula.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes heirloom tomatoes, red onions, Bullhorn sweet peppers, carrots, Piracicaba sprouting broccoli, Savoy cabbage, plus artichokes.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Enjoy a bountiful selection of fragrant herbs this week: Parsley, sage, rosemary, basil and blue basil.

Edible Flowers

Bright, cheery nasturtium flowers to add color and spice to your salads.
