What’s In The Box? August 31 – September 6

Summer Supper
The summer harvest is at its peak, with favorites such as cherry tomatoes, sweet grilling peppers and green beans ripening in abundance as we reach the end of August. This week, put these gorgeous offerings to delicious use in side dishes that accent a supper-ready pasta tossed with marinara sauce lovingly-crafted according to a treasured family recipe. Also featuring Italian Rustica bread and farm-fresh fruit including melon, peaches and grapes, this summery lineup is fit for a crowd—gather ‘round the patio, uncork a bottle of wine and enjoy!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Nonna Pat’s Marinara Sauce

Crafted fresh this week in our farm kitchen with organically-grown local tomatoes (and lots of love), the key to our beloved family recipe is in its simplicity: ripe, juicy tomatoes, a handful of hand-torn basil leaves, fresh garlic, a swirl of first-press Italian olive oil, then sea salt and fresh ground pepper.

Lagana Foods Radiatore Pasta

Founded by local chefs Ethan Stowell and Kaela Farrington and made fresh in downtown Seattle, Lagana Foods pastas are crafted using semolina flour and water, then cut to shape using traditional bronze dies. The epitome of rustic elegance, try this radiatore pasta tossed with Nonna Pat’s luscious marinara sauce.

Italian Rustica Bread

Baked just for us at a small bakery in Snohomish, this airy, rustic loaf makes for great oven-crisp crostini—just brush with olive oil, sprinkle with salt and pepper and rub with a fresh-cut clove of garlic before toasting.

Atlantis by Maetierra Rías Baixas 2016

This beautiful Spanish white wine bursts with a bright spritzy quality and medium acidity, featuring notes of lemon balm and tart Anjou pear.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Bodegas Ontañon is a family-owned winery located in Spain’s Rioja region—the country’s most well known. A beautiful blend of 90% Tempranillo and 10% Garnacha grapes, this particular red blend displays notes of black fruit and spice with natural and delicate acidity.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. With shorter days that signal the coming of fall, the girls are up with the sun to roam the outdoors where they still enjoy the warm afternoons.

Westward Blue Cheese

Similar in style to a gorgonzola, this creamy soft cheese boasts a gorgeous marbled center and flavorful bite, making it a wonderful complement to a summer salad.

Cherry Valley Dairy Coffee Butter

This silky-smooth butter from Duvall-based Cherry Valley Dairy is crafted with fresh, locally-roasted coffee grounds that are steeped overnight in cultured cream before churning. The deep, earthy butter boasts subtle notes of cocoa and pepper and is wonderful atop a freshly-grilled steak, baked sweet potato or freshly-toasted bread.

Blueberry Jam

Made here at Bella Luna in our farmhouse kitchen from our fresh-picked blueberries, organic cane sugar and pectin.

Ripe Summer Fruit

Freestone yellow peaches, green-fleshed cantaloupe and Canadice grapes harvested from the Grape House at Bella Luna.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes bicolor sweet corn, Walla Walla sweet onions, sweet grilling peppers, Sungold cherry tomatoes, baby golden beets, carrots, and green beans.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Escarole and peppery arugula greens.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Fresh Italian parsley, garlic, yellow Dutch shallots, rosemary, mint and basil.
