What’s In The Box? August 4-10

Flavors of the Southwest
Nothing perks up the taste buds quite like the flavors of the Southwest. Explore the region’s smoky, spicy flavors by firing up the grill for this week’s housemade dry rub seasoned with garlic, thyme and smoked sea salt (just pick your meat or veggie main!), then use the signature cornbread mix and premium dried beans to craft cookout-friendly sides. Combined with a plethora of fresh produce ranging from rainbow cherry tomatoes and fennel to cherry plums and red grapes from the Bella Luna Grape House, this spectacular supper will do the Southwest proud.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

House-Blend Dry Rub for Grilling

Made with a mixture of savory spices including garlic, thyme and smoked sea salt, our house-blend is excellent rubbed on chicken, beef, fish and even seasonal vegetables—think bell pepper slices, sweet onion rounds or corn on the cob!

Premium Dried Pinquito Beans

These classic pink Santa Maria Pinquito beans from California heirloom bean purveyor Rancho Gordo are fantastic in chili, baked beans and other barbecue dishes, producing a rich, beefy broth when slow-cooked à la this week’s Southwest-style side dish (see recipes for details).

Farm & Larder Cornbread Mix

Our signature mix produces a classic, old-fashioned-style cornbread with the natural sweetness of corn. Best baked in a preheated cast-iron skillet until golden brown, then topped with butter and a drizzle of honey.

Garlic Fougasse Bread

Baked just for us at a small bakery in Snohomish, this rustic flatbread is ideal for sharing. Similar in style to traditional foccacia, the artisanal-style loaf is studded with fresh garlic and provolone cheese to give it extra depth and flavor—tear off a piece and dip it in your favorite olive oil.

Podere Ruggeri Corsini Langhe Rosato

Crafted from 100% Nebbiolo grapes grown in the Langhe foothills in the Italian province of Cuneo, this fresh and light rosé wine is an excellent aperitif, also pairing well with shellfish, salads and summery appetizers.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. The “girls” are enjoying the warm late summer afternoons and accompanying long evenings, chasing bugs and eating tasty green weeds we pull from the garden.

Blueberry Jam

Made here at Bella Luna in our farmhouse kitchen from fresh-picked blueberries, organic cane sugar and pectin.

Fresh Fruit

Blueberries, ripe Osprey Hill Farms cherry plums and Canadice red grapes from the Bella Luna grapehouse.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes English cucumbers, sprouting broccoli, rainbow cherry tomatoes, Walla Walla spring onions, Caraflex cabbage, baby golden beets, and fennel.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Little Gem Romaine and Samantha Oak Leaf lettuces, plus Treviso radicchio.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Italian parsley, hardneck garlic, rosemary, sage and sweet basil.
