What’s In The Box? August 9-15

Flavors of the Southwest
Nothing perks up the palette quite like the flavors of the Southwest. Explore the region’s smoky, spicy flavors with organic Chorizo sausage, plus premium dried beans and classic slaw ingredients to craft this week’s cookout-friendly side dishes. Combined with a plethora of fresh produce ranging from juicy heirloom and Sungold cherry tomatoes to cool-crisp Savoy cabbage, cucumbers and fennel, plus late summer blackberry jam, Pomodoro bread and an Argentinian Chardonnay, this spectacular lineup is sure to do the Southwest proud.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Skagit River Ranch Chorizo Sausage

This pig has kick! Spiced with cumin, coriander and Ancho chile powder, this flavorful sausage from our friends at the Skagit River Ranch in Sedro-Woolley is crafted from their famous all-natural pork and makes for a spicy addition to this week’s slow-simmered Pinquito beans.

Premium Dried Pinquito Beans

These classic pink Santa Maria Pinquito beans are fantastic in chili, baked beans and other barbecue dishes, producing a rich, beefy broth when slow-cooked as in this week’s Southwest-style side dish (see recipes for details).

Pomodoro Loaf

Flecked with flavorful sun-dried tomatoes and herbs, plus a hint of sea salt, this savory loaf is baked just for us by our favorite bakery in Snohomish.

Gouguenheim Valle Escondido Chardonnay 2017

Hailing from a winery nestled in the foothills of the Andes, this Argentinian Chardonnay is full-bodied and well-balanced with notes of pineapple, pear and apple.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. The “girls” are enjoying the long summer afternoons and accompanying warm evenings, chasing bugs and eating tasty green weeds we pull from the garden.

Blackberry Jam

Our housemade freezer-style jam is crafted from juicy Northwest blackberries hand-picked each morning during these hot August days. To preserve the wonderful fresh flavor and color, we make this jam with blackberries, organic cane sugar, fresh-squeezed lemon juice and pectin.

Ripe Summer Fruit

Beautiful Crimson Snow nectarines from Tonnemaker Orchard.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Peppery arugula greens and escarole, plus purslane.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes heirloom tomatoes, cucumbers, sugar snap peas, spring onions, Sungold cherry tomatoes, fennel, purple carrots, Hakurei turnips and Savoy cabbage.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Enjoy a bountiful selection of fragrant herbs this week: Cilantro, parsley, garlic and Genovese basil.
