What’s In The Box? December 1-7

Simply Satisfying
Ward off the chill this week with an easy, weeknight-ready supper inspired by the hearty flavors of fall: Fresh, locally-made pasta tossed with gorgeous Portobello mushrooms and Lacinato kale, plus sweet Italian sausage and our housemade Grana-style cheese. Wholesome multigrain bread, Bordeaux-inspired red wine and a toffee chocolate bar add to the appeal to this comforting box, as does a bounty of produce that includes Cipollini onions, winter squash and Chioggia beets—enjoy!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Lagana Foods Strozzapreti Pasta

Created by local chefs Ethan Stowell and Kaela Farrington, Lagana Foods’ pastas are hand-crafted using semolina flour and water, then cut to shape with Old-World bronze dies to give the dough an intentionally rustic appeal. This week’s hand-rolled, tube-shaped pasta pairs beautifully with sautéed mushrooms, kale and sweet Italian sausage to create a hearty and homey main dish.

Double DD Meats Sweet Italian Sausage

Spiced with garlic and fresh herbs, this flavorful sausage is made in-house from grain-fed pork at Double DD Meats, a family-owned and -run butchery in Mountlake Terrace.

Maculan Brentino Veneto 2014

This Bordeaux-inspired red is made from a blend of 50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. To ensure the perfect balance between fruitiness and softness, the wine is aged for one year, half in traditional French barriques and the other half in stainless steel tanks. On the palate, the wine is dry, full-bodied, and harmoniously balanced; it will pair nicely with this week’s hearty pasta main.

Fresh Multigrain Bread

Made in downtown Snohomish by our favorite local bakery, this round loaf is made with locally-milled Shepherd’s Grain flour and 7 different whole grains, plus hints of honey and toasted sunflower seeds.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens are on an early-to-bed, later-to-rise schedule with the shorter daylight hours. As they spend more time snug in their coop, the “girls” are enjoying an extra helping of grain to supplement their diet, continuing to give us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, blue and green.

Grana-Style Cheese

Made in our farmstead creamery, this hard Grana-style cheese is crafted from part-skim cow’s milk to allow for longer aging of 24 months or more. Ideal for grating over pasta, the drum-shaped cheese is turned and rubbed with olive oil during aging to create a smooth, golden rind.

Seattle Chocolates ‘Overcast’ Sea Salt Truffle Bar

This melt-in-your-mouth bar from local chocolatier Seattle Chocolates is crafted from a winning combination of dark chocolate, sea salt and buttery toffee—it’s the perfect rainy day pick-me-up.

Fresh Fruit

Lemons and Jonagold apples.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes Delicata winter squash, Lacinato kale, Portobello mushrooms, yellow Chantenay carrots, parsnips, Chioggia beets, Cipollini onions, fresh yellow onions and celery.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Peppery arugula greens.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Italian parsley, thyme, garlic and shallots.
