What’s in the Box? December 7-13

Brunch Time
Relax over a leisurely breakfast this weekend with a satisfying lineup starring Bavarian Meats’ classic breakfast sausage, Chanterelle duxelles and a locally-made spiced apple shrub to pair with bubbly Prosecco. Complemented by other breakfast-ready ingredients such as cinnamon-raisin bread and farm-fresh eggs, this week’s box also includes persimmons, petite fennel and ripe Bosc pears—good morning, indeed!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Bavarian Meats Breakfast Sausage

Established in 1961, this family-owned business located Pike Place Market crafts their classic and utterly delicious sausages from all-natural coarse ground pork butt seasoned with a carefully-crafted spice blend. (Please note: Organic chicken sausage will be substituted for subscribers who have requested no pork products.)

Chanterelle Duxelles

This finely chopped mixture of golden Chanterelle mushrooms, shallots and herbs sautéed in butter and wine is excellent mixed in with roasted vegetables, or even with scrambled eggs.

Fresh Raisin Bread

Made with natural starter, cinnamon and moist, chewy Flame raisins, this freshly-baked loaf is from our favorite bakery in nearby Snohomish.

Ruby Spiced Apple Shrub

A 2018 Good Food Awards Finalist, this wonderful cocktail mixer from Orcas Island-based Girl Meets Girl is crafted from tart Everest crabapples, star anise, cinnamon and black pepper for a warm spiced beverage that is especially suited for cold days. Add a splash to a glass of this week’s Prosecco for a fun brunch cocktail!

Mille Prosecco Millesimato Extra-Dry DOC

Fabulously lively and light at every glass, this extra-dry Italian Prosecco is wonderful mixed with this week’s locally-made apple shrub in a cocktail thanks to a bouquet of apple and pear notes as well as hints of light citrus.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens are on an early-to-bed, later-to-rise schedule with the shorter daylight hours. As they spend more time snug in their coop, the “girls” are enjoying an extra helping of grain to supplement their diet, continuing to give us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, blue and green.

Fresh Fall Fruit

Beautifully-ripe Bosc pears, plus persimmons, Cara Cara oranges and lemons.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection includes yellow onions, baby broccoli, orange carrots, Hakurei turnips, curly kale, petite fennel and Delicata squash.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Fresh Italian parsley, rosemary, thyme, garlic and shallots from the walled garden and greenhouse at Bella Luna Farms.
