What’s In The Box? February 23-March 1

Spring Color
As we say ‘hi’ to March on Wednesday, we also gladly welcome the first glimpses of spring, celebrated this week with a color-rich box that includes such beauties as peppery arugula greens, golden beets and crisp carrots. Centered around a luscious squash bisque crafted from a combination of our favorite winter squash, this lineup also features fresh pumpernickel bread and our housemade almond fruit crisp topping to pair with Honeycrisp apples for dessert. Enjoy!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Winter Squash Bisque

To craft this incredibly comforting soup, a beautiful combination of our favorite winter squash are first roasted with top-quality olive oil, sea salt and fresh ground pepper, plus garden-fresh herbs, then blended with onions, garlic and our housemade chicken stock.

Pumpernickel Bread

Baked fresh just for us by a small bakery in nearby Snohomish, this slightly-sweet rye bread loaf is wonderful served alongside this week’s creamy soup.

Guardian Cellars ‘Newsprint’ 2014 Malbec

This small-batch Columbia Valley red from the winemakers at Guardian Cellars is a real crowd-pleaser: Crafted from Malbec grapes and aged in French oak barrels, it features hints of cocoas and violets and a long, lingering finish.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Spending their time dodging raindrops on wet spring days (or basking in those brief moments of sun!), our heritage breed laying hens are now also enjoying the tasty green popweed we pull from the garden, in turn supplying us with eggs in beautiful shades of brown, blue and green.

Almond Fruit Crisp Topping

Our signature fruit crisp topping is crafted from organic cane sugar, ground almonds, dried cranberries, almond flour and sweet butter. Wonderful paired with the Honeycrisp apples from your box, it also tops coffeecake with aplomb!

Farm-Fresh Fruit

Honeycrisp apples, lemons and juicy Cara Cara oranges.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes yellow Sieglinde potatoes, golden beets, jumbo yellow onions, Acorn or Delicata squash, Bolero carrots and Lacinato kale.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Peppery arugula greens.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Fresh Italian parsley, thyme, shallots and garlic.

Abeego Wrap

Created from pure beeswax, jojoba oil, and tree resin infused into a fabric made of hemp and certified organic cotton, Abeego wraps are malleable at room temperature, then stiffen and hold shape when chilled. Yours to keep, this innovative food storage product can be reused time and again!
